He does all this while battling the giant crush he's developing on his new fishy friend.

Simon is deeply insecure about the changes that happened to his body and Ryland helps him feel comfortable with himself again. Also, whenever Ryland does "experiments" (mostly just poking at his fish parts and being as confused as simon is) it sorta turns him on really bad.
