    Summary

Death was supposed to be the end.

Instead, Verso wakes beneath the ruins of a dying world with no memory of who he was, no real understanding of what he's become, and a small, insistent machine at his side saying they were always meant to find each other—and that the powers he's been given are a gift.

He's not always certain he agrees.

Still, he tries to live. Alongside a family he no longer remembers but somehow can’t stop loving. Alongside, a stubborn, but brilliant engineer who throws himself toward danger despite being painfully mortal—and who looks at Verso like he's a person and not a walking corpse.

Worst of all in his new life, Verso finds himself wanting things.
A life that doesn’t feel borrowed, and a future that includes someone who was never meant to outlast him.

Gustave dies at Renoir's hand on the Stone Wave Cliffs. Then Gustave opens his eyes to the sound of a cane striking stone at the edge of the Continent. He dies again, he opens his eyes again. Again, again, and again, until he gets it right.

A slow-burn Verstave time loop from Gustave's perspective. The content warning is for time loop-typical death and violence.

    Summary

In order to bring Gustave back as himself, whole, Maelle had to infuse him with Pure Chroma, something wielded only by Painters.

This Pure Chroma responds to intent, just like it does for Painters.

As life begins again - Gustave does not hesitate to support all of his friends and family - but now that support comes with a cost that he might no longer afford to be able to pay.

    Summary

After the events at Stone Wave Cliffs, Gustave awakens in a liminal space suspended between canvas and reality where a faceless child paints without end. What begins as an intellectual puzzle Gustave cannot abandon gradually transforms into something else entirely: the stubborn effort to save his sister’s life and the fragile canvas she sustains, while also proving—patiently, against every layer of refusal—to a man who has long ceased to believe in his own worth that he is permitted, perhaps even deserving, to have a real, finite life.
