The last thing Simon felt was the explosion of roots from his skin. The need to get out.
Then, there was nothing. A blessing, he would have thought. No pain. No more agony. No more Simon. Simply life, simply existence. The liquid on it's bark, it's roots in the soil.
A tree didn't have a concept of time. There was no need to. But a tree could feel change. It's branches seeked light. Nutrients. There was no such thing in an ocean so thick. So just as the tree had always done, it fought to live. It grew. And grew. If there was no light down below, it would grow to where it could find some.
There was light on it's leaves at last. Proper ground to latch onto. Peace.
