Chapter Text
Europa blinked tiredly, looking into nowhere.
There were now tired bags under her usually soft blue eyes.
Europa hasn't slept much the last couple of days since the battle with Planet X.
Not only because she was constantly with her friends, Calisto and Io, who were sleeping most of the time...
Not only because she had to constantly count the small moons to make sure that no one was lost...
But this was also connected with the nightmares that have now become the girl’s constant companion in the land of dreams...
Nightmares in which there was always one scenario.
Ganymede, her love, didn't survive the final round...
---
Nightmare:
Europa stands up straight, her body tense, ready for a bombardment of asteroids thrown by Planet X.
Luna and Triton were also ready, although there was a little fear on their faces.
Of course, Planet X easily knocked out all the attackers, leaving them practically defenseless.
But at the last moment, before any asteroids could strike them, Ganymede, Titan and Titania appeared in front of them, covering them with their bodies while the asteroids mercilessly struck their surface.
And Europa could swear that everything in her had stopped, from the core to the ability to think numbly.
"Ganymede!" She screamed desperately, trying to get closer to her other half, but she couldn't, as if something invisible and strong was holding her with a tight grip.
"I guess...urgh, being a leader isn't all fun and games, huh?" Ganymede croaked, a small, sad but loving smile on his lips and then...
A bright flash and the attack stopped.
Titan and Titania were barely conscious, their bodies horribly wounded.
But the worst part wasn't that...
Ganymede, who was also hovering in front of them and whose condition was even worse, didn't move.
There was nothing.
No moaning.
No coughing.
No breathing.
Just a broken body from which the blood of his core flowed mixed with ice and his underground oceans..
"GANYMEDE!" Europa screams at the top of her lungs.
And then her real eyes open.
---
The girl tiredly rubbed her eyes, trying to drive away the remnants of the terrible dream.
"Everything was fine." she convinced herself, "It's just a dream, just a nightmare...Ganymede is okay... he just needs time to recover... he is okay..."
But no matter how hard she tried, the image of her dead lover still did not leave her.
Without noticing it, Europa ended up in the Asteroid belt, where they usually had meetings in the Moon Club.
She didn't even pay attention to this, and the girl silently stared into the distance again, where rocky planets fell under her gaze.
Venus and Mercury, to her surprise, were apparently discussing something and not arguing, and Earth and Mars were peacefully dozing in their orbits, holding their moons in their arms.
Then her eyes moved to the Sun, and at that moment, anger at the star appeared in her core again.
Europa had a thought that Sun had deliberately chosen the "Asteroid Dodgeball" for the third round. It was obvious that they would lose.
And because of him and Planet X, she almost lost Ganymede, without whom she could not imagine her life...
No, it would not be life, but just an empty existence...
This thought made her shudder.
Don't think about it, don't think about it, don't think about it, don't think about it...
"Europa?"Her already panicked thoughts were interrupted by a familiar voice.
The moon turned around, and in front of her stood a worried Ganymede.
"Ganymede, you need to rest and recover!" Europa scolded her boyfriend in a motherly way.
"I just got worried when I noticed that you flew away somewhere..." Ganymede answered before noticing something.
"Europa...are you shaking?"
Europa blinked before she noticed that her hands were actually shaking.
"I...I'm fine..." She tried to wave it off.
I have to be strong...for everyone...for you..
But Ganymede was clearly getting serious.
"Babe, you're not fine." He said before taking her shaking hands in his, "What happened?"
Europa swallowed as her throat became dry from the pent-up emotions inside her.
"I...I can't..." She answered quietly.
Ganymede seemed to understand that his girlfriend couldn't speak as calmly as usual, so he just ran his fingers over the rest of his other half's fingers.
"Okay...do you need a hug?"
Europa lowered her head but then nodded.
Gently, the largest moon in the Solar System pulled his girlfriend towards him, holding her so that one hand looked at Europa's soft hair and the other at her back.
Europa leaned against Ganymede, trying not to touch his wounds, which had already begun to heal.
"He was lucky, the wounds could have been fatal." A dark voice flashed through her head.
Europa bit part of her lip and closed her eyes.
Don'tthinkdon'tthinkdon'tthink.
"Are you in pain?" Europa asked finally, trying to keep her voice calm and soft.
Ganymede just rested his chin on top of her head.
"I'm fine. I'm more in pain because something is worrying you..."
Europe again remained silent, not knowing what to say.
They remained in an embrace for some time before Ganymede asked again.
"Hey, Babe, maybe we should go back to Jupi - I mean, to our orbit for now? The others probably noticed that we were missing."
Europa nodded again weakly.
But when Ganymede took her hand again gently, something in Europa broke.
"Nightmares..." She said quietly.
Ganymede froze.
"What?"
"Nightmares. The final round with Planet X. You, Titan and Titania save us and you..." Europa felt tears forming in her eyes, but she didn't try to wipe them away, "..and you die."
"Europa..." Ganymede whispered sadly.
"I relived your sacrifice over and over again...and I couldn't do anything." Europa said before hugging herself, trying to hide the trembling that didn't leave her.
And then she found herself in loving embraces again and she finally burst into tears.
"Europa, Honey, I'm here, I'm alive, and I'm okay." Ganymede consoled her.
"And yet I almost lost you anyway...I can't...I can't live without you, Ganymede...you're my everything..." Europa sobbed.
"And you're my everything too, Europa. As I said, my core belongs to you, always." He replied, kissing her forehead.
"And mine belongs to you too. Forever." Europa said before suddenly pulling away.
"Kiss me. Please. I want to forget about everything, even for a moment." She said, feeling the blush on her cheeks, but it was a pleasant feeling.
Cold, but always at the same time warm and gentle hands took her face, and her eyes met the golden eyes of Ganymede.
"Always when you want, my Love." He said, and his lips soon met hers.
Europa simply closed her eyes, enjoying the pure pleasure as she was united with her other half. Her arms wrapped around Ganymede's neck to press herself closer to him.
Ganymede himself seemed reluctant to end the kiss. He wanted to always feel his beloved's lips on his own, to always put his love into them.
But the lack of oxygen(?) forced them to break the kiss, and they just pressed their foreheads to each other.
"Better?" Ganymede asked quietly with a small smile.
"Yes, much better..." Europa answered, smiling slightly herself, and now happy tears were dripping down her cheeks.
Everything was fine.
Ganymede was alive, and they were together.
As long as they were together, everything was fine.
"But I want to continue." Europa said with a sly sparkle in her eyes and kissed Ganymede again, who didn't even have time to answer.
However, he didn't object, and again merged in a kiss with his Europa.
