Notes:

Hello and welcome to a mostly lighthearted ObiKaka fic <3

Disclaimers:
- Not a native English speaker
- The ages might not be a 100% canonically accurate
- The terminology might be off, but I tried my best to keep it constant at least (watched the anime in German which by the end just went with a lot of the original Japanese terminology, researched some stuff in English and maybe some things are just the original Japanese names, + I didn’t read the full manga)
- I'm not the biggest fan of using Japanese suffixes (e.g. “chan”, “kun”, etc.) in my own writing because it feels unnatural to me, but I did use the merging of ‚baka‘ + name in this fic (e.g. Bakashi)
- This might not be the longest fic, but I'm considering a sequel :)

Hope you enjoy!

Chapter 1: Team Minato and the teammate that is so not in love... right?

Chapter Text

“I think you should tell him.”

Obito Uchiha looked at his best friend mid-bite, completely bewildered. He was currently having lunch with his best friend since childhood, Rin Nohara. They had just been chatting about missions and having their food in peace on their favourite bench, when out of nowhere that cryptic statement left her mouth.

“fell fho fhat n’w?” Obito muffled, his mouth shoveled full of rice. The brown-haired girl looked at him in disgust as a singular grain of rice flew out of his mouth, right onto her flak jacket.
“Ew, Obito!” She screeched, wiping the grain of rice off of herself. “Chew, Swallow and then talk! God, are you really 18 or maybe just 8 years old?” Rin scolded, Obito rolling his eyes a little, quickly chewing up his food and swallowing it.
“Sorry, Rin. You just confused the hell out of me. I should tell who what?” He asked again, this time with an empty mouth.

“You should tell Kakashi.”
“Tell Kakashi what?” Rin giggled, wondering if her best friend was really that stupid.

“That you’re in love with him!” She grinned, looking at Obito like that was the most obvious thing she could’ve possibly meant.
“I am not in love with-”
“Ohhh, Obito’s in love? I wanna hear all about this!”

Oh great, Obito thought. Another woman who would never let this go.

“I am not in love!” Obito quickly defended himself, blushing furiously, turning to face the redhead that had snuck up behind him. Kushina was carrying a basket full of groceries and had little Naruto holding her hand.

“Obiiiii!” Naruto squealed, running up to the Uchiha in excitement, quickly jumping into his lap. Thankfully Obito had already put his lunchbox from his lap onto the bench, welcoming the blonde boy into his arms. Naruto cuddled up to him immediately, making both Rin and Obito melt on the inside.

“Hello Naru~, you’re getting so big! Are you staying out of trouble?” Obito lifted Naruto into the air, the child giggling happily. The Uchiha still vividly remembered holding Naruto for the first time when he had only been a few days old and now he was already turning four this year. Obito also recalled being afraid to drop or hurt Naruto when he had first gotten to hold him, feeling a lot more carefree with the child now.
“Yes! I’m being very good! I will help mummy cook today.” Naruto stated proudly, waving his tiny arms around as Obito kept raising him into the air again and again.

When Naruto finally settled down a little, Kushina looked at Obito expectingly.

“Soooo? Who’s the lucky girl?” Kushina purred, wriggling her eyebrows at the young Uchiha.
“I’m not-”
“Actually, it’s not a girl! It’s Ka-”
“Shit, I am not in love, damnit!” Obito was burning up at this point, both Rin and Kushina giggling manically. Naruto was looking around in between his mother and the other two, wondering what all the fuss was about.

“Mummy! Obi said a bad word!” The little boy whined, pointing at Obito accusatory and pouting at his mother.
“You’re right, my baby, Obi did say a bad word. And he’s lying too! That’s very naughty, right Naruto?” Kushina smirked when her son nodded vigorously.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to say that.” Obito apologised, only for saying a swear word, however. Little Naruto turned around on Obito’s lap to face him, cupping the older’s cheeks with his tiny hands.
“Mummy says lying is forbidden, Obi! Liars get squashed like a tomato.” He explained, looking at the Uchiha in worry. Obito couldn’t help but smile at Naruto’s cuteness, hugging him gently as he blushed again.
“Don’t worry about me, Naru. I am not lying, so that won’t happen to me.” He assured the little boy, getting another adorable hug from the small blonde.

“Why are you blushing then, Obi?” Kushina teased, poking the Uchiha’s cheek. Rin laughed beside him, making him blush an even deeper shade of red. “So Rin, my lovely girl, you were just telling me that it’s not a girl? Did I hear that right?” Kushina’s singsong voice made Obito more than just a little nervous, the wide, unsettling grin on Rin’s face not helping.
“Yes, that’s right.” Rin confirmed with a nod, Kushina giggling happily.

“Will you two stop now? It’s not true.” Obito was getting annoyed, but could not for the life of him shake off that stupid blush dusting his cheeks.

“I can really only think of one guy for you, Obito.” Kushina pondered, Rin nodding vigorously. “Well, while I am a little sad that you and Rin won’t end up together, Kakashi and you… oddly makes a lot of sense, Obito.” The woman's smile was genuine this time, but Obito’s head felt like it was on fire at this point. Rin was chuckling still and unfortunately Naruto in his lap was listening to every word closely, having Obito worried that he would run around the village spouting his mother’s nonsense to whoever would listen.

“You two are just crazy. It’s not like that.”
“Oh come on, we all have eyes! You’re pining!” Rin piled on, making Kushina grin devilishly.

“You’re free tomorrow, right Obito? Could you be a dear and come by to watch Naruto for a while? I have a few errands to run.” Kushina beamed at him, completely changing the subject, having Obito worried for an ulterior motive with the way she was batting her eyelashes at him.

“Well, it’s our day off, I was going to-”
“Perfect, you’re an angel, Obito!” The redhead squished his cheeks together before he could say anything else. She then quickly picked up her son, setting him back to the ground, taking him by the hand and gathering her basket back into her hand.
“Come on, Naruto, we have to get home and start cooking. But you get to play with Uncle Obito tomorrow, okay? Say a nice bye-bye, my baby.” Kushina encouraged, Naruto saying a cheerful goodbye to both Rin and Obito, him and Kushina leaving after that.

“Now why the hell did you have to put that idea into her head, Rin?!”

His best friend only laughed at him.

___

Obito was dragging his feet walking the streets of Konoha, hands buried deep in his pockets. He was still grumbling about that encounter with Rin and Kushina earlier.

He was so not in love with Kakashi.

What a preposterous statement.

Kicking a small stone out of his way, Obito pouted.

Why had Rin targeted him like this? Getting Kushina involved like that was a low blow.
Even suggesting he tell Kakashi that he was in love with him was already ridiculous, but telling the redhead was over the line. Obito knew that Kushina would try to do something about this. He wasn’t sure what, but this was definitely not the last he’d heard of this.
She had done the same with Rin when Obito had had a crush on her.

For some reason it had resulted in him actually getting a date with Rin in the end.

Just thinking about that made Obito want to laugh.

He had been in love with Rin for so many years that he had been convinced that once he had the chance to date her, he would never let her go again.

He had been under the impression that Rin was still very much in love with Kakashi, but had apparently been wrong about that. So when she agreed to go on an actual date with him about a year after he had returned to the village, Obito had been over the moon.

Neither of them had expected the date to end with them weirded out, however.

Nothing had gone wrong in particular, in fact the date had gone perfectly.

Obito had picked Rin up from home, had brought her flowers and they had gone out to eat together.
After that they had taken a nice, romantic walk through the village, Obito gathering up all his courage to kiss Rin.
She had welcomed his lips, they had tried to kiss multiple times, even making out a little, being the curious teenagers that they had been.

But it had simply felt wrong to both of them.

Rin later described the feeling as something akin to kissing a sibling and Obito couldn’t have agreed more.

That then had concluded his crush on Rin Nohara.

They had agreed that they would be much better off staying best friends and that‘s exactly what they had done.

Thinking about Kakashi, Obito wondered how Rin even got the idea that he was in love with their teammate.
Him and Kakashi had become really good friends over the years. Obito would even go so far as to say that Kakashi was his best friend just as much as Rin was. But that didn’t mean he was in love with the guy.

Sure, sometimes he would blush when Kakashi would touch him or lean against him, whether it be accidental or on purpose. He supposed he would sometimes touch Kakashi a little more than he had to as well.

And just maybe Obito would sometimes lose track of time staring at the silver haired male in awe.

And perhaps he had gotten the occasional nosebleed (or boner), watching the Hatake‘s lean body twist and turn in training, all sweaty and hot.

But seeing the tiny waist and perfectly shaped butt like that, who could really blame him, right?

It was only natural that he would be aroused by that body and that he would think about Kakashi when he was jerking off at night. It wasn’t his fault that he was a horny 18-year-old and that his friend was that hot.
Good god, he could feel another nosebleed coming in just thinking about that perfectly curved ass.

“Obito, wait up!”

Oh no.

Obito tried to quickly think of something unappealing, literally anything, somehow ending up with the mental image of Madara and the Zetsu’s line dancing back in that horrendous cave. He did not need a boner or nosebleed from his inappropriate thoughts of Kakashi’s naked body, when it was said silver-haired male who was jogging up to him right now.

“Hey, on your way to see Minato Sensei as well?” Obito asked, smiling at his friend like he hadn’t just thought about him in the lewdest way possible. When Kakashi caught up to him, the two walked towards the Hokage Villa together.

“Yeah, but only because Rin is forcing me to hand in her report.” Kakashi sighed, “I was already finished for the day when I ran into her. She threatened to feed me to Isobu if I didn’t hand it in for her.”

“Isobu doesn’t even eat people.”

“I know! But you know how she is… Ahh I just wanted to go home and read…”

Obito laughed. He did know quite well how persuasive Rin could be. He couldn’t shake the feeling, however, that she had only sent Kakashi because she knew that Obito had been on his way to hand in his report as well. And Kakashi meeting Rin had probably not been so coincidental after all either.

“You and your disgusting porn books, seriously…” Obito teased, grinning at Kakashi a little, satisfied when a small blush crept into the others cheeks. He couldn’t see much of the others face as per usual, but he could tell that much at least.

“It’s not porn! And you got me the latest volume for my birthday, so don’t even start.” The Hatake complained, playfully shoving Obito a little. The Uchiha couldn’t wipe the smirk off his face. He had peeked into Kakashi’s beloved books before and they were definitely naughty.
The thought of his friend reading them at home all alone, probably pleasuring himself had crossed his mind more than once.

That pale body contorting erotically, cheeks flushed an adorable red colour, that silver hair a beautiful mess and his eyes all glassy with his hand around…

“Why are you drooling, weirdo?” Kakashi questioned, sounding horrified.

“Uhhh… sorry I spaced out. Was thinking about uh… dinner.” Obito quickly cleared his throat, wiping his mouth with the back of his glove.

Kakashi looked at him with doubt in his eye. “What are you having that it makes you drool that much? A mountain of lollipops?” The Hatake teased, referring to Obito’s habit of eating way too much candy. He truly wondered how the Uchiha still had such a fine physique, despite his obvious sugar addiction.

“Actually, I’m having dinner at the compound. Mikoto invited me over.” Obito explained, blushing. He hoped that Kakashi would never find out what he had actually just thought about.

“Ah. Head of the clan still keeping you close, hm?” Kakashi inquired, an unsettling feeling in his stomach gnawing at him.

Upon Obito’s return four years ago, Fugaku Uchiha had demanded that Kakashi give the donated eye back to the rightful owner.

The Uchiha were more than a little uneasy about a non-Uchiha possessing even a part of their powers. The young, still visibly distraught and shaken Obito had put up one hell of a fight against that, refusing to take his gift back. He had been the black sheep of the clan prior to that anyway, so he hadn’t actually cared about stepping on anyone’s toes.

In the end he had stood his ground so well, that the clan had agreed to let Kakashi keep the sharingan. Obito had already been transplanted another sharingan by Madara Uchiha prior to his return, so he didn’t even need his eye back.

Ever since then the head of the clan and his family had kept close tabs on Obito, somehow developing a family like relationship with the orphan. Now that a few years had passed, no one questioned Kakashi having Obito‘s left sharingan anymore, yet sometimes he couldn’t help but worry that his friend would still get in trouble over it.

But since it made the two an excellent team, maybe no one had anything against it anymore.

“Hm, I guess. But it’s different now. They are the closest thing to a family I will ever have. Well, apart from Team Minato and grandma of course.”
Obito’s grandmother was still alive and had been overjoyed at getting her grandson back. While Obito had moved out of her house and into his own apartment last year, he had only moved a few houses down to still be able to take care of his grandmother everyday.

Kakashi smiled at his friend, not sure how to answer anymore. The Uchiha nudged his friend a little as they made their way into the building. “Don’t you have enough time to read tomorrow? We have the day off.”, he changed the subject, Kakashi looking at him with a singular widened eye, left eye covered as per usual.

“I completely forgot! You’re right. Oh, that’s amazing.” Kakashi was positively glowing after that revelation, causing Obito to blush once again.

Walking up to the Hokage’s office, the Uchiha got it now.

Maybe, but just maybe, he had the tiniest crush on Kakashi.
