Work Text:
“Hey! Good morning you two,” Mia turns around, when they open the door.
Senhor Veríssimo’s room looks the same as usual, although it's clear the lack of him in the room. Mia, Veríssimo’s daughter, is in front of the table, a bunch of papers in her hands. Lupi, who is always by her side, greets Cellbit and Roier by licking them.
“Good morning,” Roier waves, and then pets Lupi.
“Morning, Mia! Did something happen to Veríssimo?” Cellbit asks, before kneeling and petting Lupi, “Ei Lupi, bom dia pra você também.”
“Sleeping, I finally managed to make him sleep,” she sighs, “He’s gonna get himself killed someday, and you two aren't looking any better.”
She points at the eye bags under their eyes.
“Eh, you know how it is,” Roier shrugs.
“You need to worry about your health, if we weren't in a shortage of agents it would be great if you were resting after everything.” she fixes the papers in her hands and puts them in the table, “But, about that, I got the papers of the mission Veríssimo was going to send you in!”
Cellbit and Roier nod, getting closer to the table.
“We are Sorry we can't send more agents with you two,” Mia says, “There’s fewer and fewer agents lately.”
“We can do it,” Cellbit says.
“Murder husbands,” Roier agrees.
After so many missions they went together, the two of them, this has been their nickname in the Ordo Realitas.
Mia giggles, before opening the documents, and getting serious again, “Yes, but for this sort of mission it would be optimal to have a bigger and more experienced group. As you know, many kids have run away from the Orphanage Perpétua e Felicidade, some of these kids have been found, some haven't.”
They nod. Richarlyson, Leonarda… Bobby, all of them were found and/or adopted by Ordos agents.
Apparently, there was something in the Orphanage, so when they found a way to run away, they did it as fast as they could, some were caught by an occultist organization.
“When we asked some people who used to work in the Orphanage, they said the kids kept having nightmares, and some of them were even refusing to sleep in their rooms.”
Mia brings a picture of a house, “But, some agent found this house, it's close to the Bar Secos e Molhados. Right now, he is still unconscious, but before that, he sent a report talking about how he found the kid's belongings there. There's a chance it isn't connected to the case, but we can't miss that chance. You two need to be very careful.”
The house is old, cracks can be seen on the walls, the grass is overgrown, and an swing in a rotten tree.brokens swing in a rotten tree. It’s already dark, so they wouldn't attract too much attention.
They open the door, and dust starts to flow, Cellbit sneezes.
The interior of the house is not better than the outside, dust covers the place. They can see a couch, its foam fallen on the ground, some closets, the doors ajar, a sink, a broken fridge, and two doors on each side of the room.
Roier opens the closets, some spiders were apparently living there.
“Is there something here,” Cellbit asks, still close to the door after he saw the spiders.
“Yes,” Roier takes some papers from inside, “Investigoier.”
Cellbit gets closer, and helps to translate what is written in papers that are in Portuguese.
“This looks like a kid’s writing,” Cellbit tilts his head, “ ‘Every night, he talks to me, but they don’t believe me! The other kids also can hear it, his whispers, he appears in our dreams, but I know he’s there. Some nights, I swear I see someone under my bed. Why won't the adults believe us?!’”
Under the text, a child’s drawing of a light brown blob under a bed can be seen.
“This is the same thing that happened to Richas in the Orphanage.” Cellbit says.
They follow to the next room, and find a bathroom. The sink was wet, although the closed faucet was not leaking, and a broken window.
They go to the next room, and hear footsteps inside it.
“Hello?” they hear a kid’s voice saying, until a loud noise is heard, and the kid starts screaming.
Roier gets his sword, Cellbit takes some ingredients before they kick the door open.
The kid is crying, being held by two clawed hands from a creature. Its beige cloak thankfully hides whatever is under it, but still, two glowing eyes can be seen. Many pale arms and legs are out of the cloak, some wearing golden bracelets. Although the creature seems to be hurt, some of its arms and legs are missing, and parts of the cloak are also torn. The hands that hold the kid are wearing golden claws, and the kid cries, which is not a good sign. Part of its body is under an old bed in the room, and the kid’s shoes are next to it.
But well, you never know what is under your bed, right?
This is the Bicho-Papão, also known as The Boogeyman.
Cellbit grabs some blood ingredients, putting a Curse Weapon ritual in Roier’s sword. They need to be fast, because if there’s one thing the Bicho-Papão hates, it is when kids cry.
Veins cover the swords, and Roier moves before as fast as he can. The creature holds the kid, and their eyes slowly start unfocusing. Roier tries to cleanly cut off his arms, but fails.
Cellbit takes a gun, and also puts the ritual in it, the weapon now having a red color, and veins.
Roier keeps trying to cut off the Bicho-Papão’s arms, while Cellbit starts shooting it. When he manages to cut off the arms, the creature gets smaller, and tries to hold Roier’s arms.
“You need to hide!” He tells the kid, if they stay here while still crying, things will only get worse.
6 arms push Roier, and he falls before he can do anything. The arms start holding him, trying to strike, until-
“Nana, neném,” Cellbit starts singing, getting closer to the creature and shooting the arms that are holding Roier, “Que a Cuca vem pegar-”
Another thing about the Bicho-Papão, is that lullabies are the only thing that makes it scared.
The creature drops Roier, getting its hands in the ground, and runs past Cellbit.
“The door are closed,” Roier says, and Cellbit holds a hand to him get up, and he does, “We need to go before the fucker finds the kid.”
Roier holds his swords, and Cellbit gets his gun ready.
They both go to the living room, and find the creature getting bigger, so it can go through a window.
Roier runs to strike the creature, but it starts holding Roier with its arms, and he can hear Cellbit calling him before he starts forgetting his surroundings.
He remembers the day Bobby died.
The kid has disappeared for a long time, until, one day, he came back. But, things were weird. He didn't remember most of the things that happened, he didn't remember most of his life with Jaiden and Roier, didn’t remember his siblings
But one day-
Bobby disappeared once again. Jaiden tried to find help in an occultist group, and Roier in Ordo.
One day, they both found leads in an abandoned house, and they investigated together. When they opened the door of the room, his son was there.
His foot floated above the ground, his skin was pale, and words were tattooed in his skin, and they glowed in golden.
His son wasn't alive anymore, now a creature. There was no way to get him back.
He wasn't the one who put Bobby out of his misery, he knows that, but - looking back at this memory, all his sees is Bobby’s lifeless body, his hands stained with red and-
His sword falls from his hands, and Cellbit starts shooting the creature.
“Roier, guapito -” Cellbit calls, and takes a knife to cut the creature's arms.
Roier slowly starts becoming conscious again, Cellbit manages to cut off one of its arms, and when Roier falls to the ground he takes his sword, and manages to deliver the final blow to the creature.
The creature body falls in the ground, and it’s just Cellbit, Roier, the creature’s corpse in the floor and the silence.
“This is our report on what happened,” Cellbit hands the documents to Mia.
“A Bicho-Papão? Poor kid…” Mia says, “You couldn't find them, right?”
“No, we looked through all the houses, they might have run away while the fight was happening,”
Later, Agent Tubbo would find a kid, crying on the streets, he would give them sunglass, and a home.
