Work Text:
Gillion swings his sword at the crates, jumping around the ship and slicing them in half. It was a good night for training.
He didn't really want to train, but what else was he to do when he couldn't sleep? He’s the chosen one, after all. He can't help but continue old schedules of late night training and daytime fights. It's routine at this point.
But still, it feels wrong now. Like he’s disappointing Jay and Chip. Maybe he is? He doesn't know.
Gillion slices through barrels and ice dummies he made like he was born to. That's what he’s always been told.
Now that he thinks about it, he doesn't really want to train. But that’s wrong.
The Elders would never approve.
Gillion is on the floor. He can't breathe.
Why cant he breathe? He should be training right now.
He wishes Edyn were here. She’d know what to do.
“Gill? Gill!”
There was a voice in front of him that he couldn't quite register. Heated hands held his shoulders and he immediately knew it was Chip.
Gillion could recognize those hands anywhere.
“Gill, man, you’re okay! Snap out of it, dude.”
Gillion let his head fall onto Chip’s shoulder. He wants to go home . He wants Edyn.
Chip wrapped his arms around Gillion as the man fell into him, Chip settling his hand on Gillion’s back and rubbing in soft circles.
“Gill?” Chip whispered. He’s warm.
“Hi, Chip.”
Gillion hasn’t processed anything from the last five or so minutes. He thinks. He doesn't remember sitting on the ground, he doesn't remember Chip being here, and he still wants Edyn.
Gillion curls further into Chip’s arms. He's not used to being this warm, the sensation made his skin tingle.
“You don't need to be strong.”
Gillion is confused. Doesn't he need to protect everyone?
“I do. I have to protect you and Jay and everyone.”
Chip looks down at him, grabbing his hand, “You don't. You just need to be Gillion. That's all we want.”
“What if I don't know who Gillion really is?” Gillion mumbles into Chip’s shoulder.
“We’ll figure it out. Just you is enough.”
And if they hug the rest of the night, nobody mentions it.
