[Updated Schedule Will Change, I’ll Try To Keep It Constant]

Notes:

Hey guys! So I'm going to be writing ahead as much as possible for this fic so that I do not fall behind on updates. I’ll be posting chapters whenever I finish the chapter ahead of it. Anyways, on to the story!

Chapter 1: Road Trip

Chapter Text

“Aether are you sure you got everything?” Aether sighed for what must have been the eightieth time that morning. “Yes Lumine. You know just because I'm blind doesn’t mean I'm automatically forgetful.” He could hear his sister huff out some air at his remark, but besides that she stayed silent.

“I know you're trying your best Lumine, but I can handle myself! You're not going to be able to follow me around every day at college.”

He could tell his sister was pouting still, even if he couldn’t see her. “Plus I might have a super hot roomate to take care of me.” He got a small laugh out of her with that, so he took it as a win.

“Yeah yeah whatever. Just get your stuff all in a pile and get in the car. Don’t wanna be late and walk in your roomate doing it with someo-”

“Cut it out Lumine!” His sister cackled before opening the door for him. “Get out to the car, I'll be out in a minute.” He waved her off with a quite ‘yeah yeah', walking out to the car. He knew that his sister was just teasing him, but he was also worried. What if his roomate was an abilist prick? Or what if his roomate pestered him with questions about his blindness?

He knew he was being a bit irrational. If the guy really was that big of an asshole he could always get Lumine to ‘kindly persuade' the school to get him a new roomate.

Even so, his anxiety was running haywire, making him think of seemingly ridiculous scenarios in his head. What if the guy wasn't abilist, but homophobic or misogynistic? What if he was all three?

His thoughts were cut off as the trunk to the car shut with a loud thunk. He must of been spacing out so much that he hadn’t noticed his sister packing the car. He could feel the car tip as his sister climbed in the drivers seat. “Ready to go idiot?”

“Yup. You sure you grabbed everything Lumine? After all, you don’t want your poor blind brother riding the subway all the way back home because you forgot one of his bags.”

The hand that he had brought up to his forehead dramaticly was slapped down. “Off course I did! Also I would never let you take the subway, I would just drive back hear and grab it dingus.”

He clenched the part of his shirt that was over his heart dramaticly. “You truly do care for me, my dear sister.” He could just feel the way his sister rolled her eyes at his antics, the same way she had always done their entire lives. Just as the car had gotten started he remembered something. “Ah ha! It's my turn to pick the music Lumine.~”

His sister groaned at his words. “Yeah yeah, just hand the phone over so I can connect it.” He swiftly pulled his phone out of his pocket and handed it over to his sister with an absolutely smug grin.

His sister yanked the phone out of his hand and plugged it into the car. Both siblings didn't have a car, so Lumine's girlfriend Amber had been kind enough to lend them her's.

A few seconds after he heard the telltale ‘click' of a phone being plugged in the phone was thrown back into his lap. “Please don’t pick Christmas music again. If you do I can’t promise that your luggage will all be in one piece by the time we make it on campus.”

He just snorted before using the software he had installed long ago into his phone to navigate to spotify. He found the playlist he was looking for before clicking play. He could tell his sister approved of his choice as she almost immediately started humming along to the melody of the song. He finally settled in for the three and a half hour long roadtrip that laid ahead of them.

After almost three gas stations stops, a one hour extra wait in traffic, and them almost running out of gas, they finally made it to the campus. From the way his sister had gasped as they entered the university's property, the place was probably huge. It only took about fifteen minutes to find a parking spot, which was surprising to say the least.

When they finally stopped Aether quickly stepped out of the car to stretch, his back hurting from the long wait in traffic. He could hear his sister also exit the car, the slam of the driver side car door alerting him.

He could hear Lumine pulling some type of paper out as some crinkling noise came from her general direction. He stretched out his back, which cracked from how long he had been sitting.

“Alright, looks like the dorms are near the north wing. It says you're on the fourth floor, and I'm on the fifth. It doesn’t say the rooms though.” Aether finished his stretching before responding. “We probably need to go to the front desk or office.”

“You're probably right. Stay in the car, I'll go check. I should be back in a bit. If I'm not you can call me.” He gave a hum of approval as he heard his sisters foot steps walking away. He sat back in the car, scrolling through some social media and responding to some texts that he hadn’t had the time to.

It wasn’t long before the opening of the car door startled him. “I got our roommates names and our rooms. You ready?” He quickly stepped out of the car and walked around to the back to open the trunk for Lumine. “Ready as I'll ever be.”

His sister made quick work of the luggage, putting it onto the cart she had brought with her after she had visited the front desk. She was just finishing up when Aether remembered what she had said earlier. “Wait, what are our roommates names?”

The trunk closed as his sister answered. “Mine is someone named Sucrose, and your's is a guy named Xiao.”

“Those are both very pretty names.” That earned him a smack to the back of the head, making him stumble. “Wow, hitting the blind guy? Never thought you would stoop that low Lumine.” That one earned him an elbow to the ribs, which he decided to not respond too. He didn't want to be introducing himself to his roommate with a bloody nose.

“Ready to go Aether?” He grabbed onto his sisters elbow with ease. “Of course my dear sister. Lead the way.” This time he could feel his sister's body move as she chuckled at his antics. Finally, they were gonna meet their roommates.
