Chapter Text
Jimin's P.O.V
////
-THURSDAY MORNING-
I have an alarm.
That alarm goes off at approximately 8:10 AM every morning and practically sounds for two seconds before I actually hear it-- I'm a very light sleeper due to my messy work schedule and my internal clock has grown accustomed to that. It is a sonorous tune that rings with different assortments of stringed instruments in perfect harmony. I could listen to it repeatedly all day, but I haven't got any time to buzz my ears with music when I have emails to read, texts to reply to, and coffee to retrieve. Not mine, because I wouldn't dare let a stranger with unknown whereabouts hand me something to drink. It's laughable.
I shut off my alarm's tune and swiped my phone from the nightstand beside my mattress. Its bright screen sent a sharp pain directly into my retinas, nearly blinding me. I winced slightly and patted around to the right of me in search of my glasses. With the thick lens correcting my vision and my eyelids slowly creaking open, I scanned my bedroom as I do routinely for anything misplaced or untended.
Although I live alone, and objects mysteriously being out of place is only heard of in movies and fictional tales; I live in an apartment where any exterior movement could shift just about anything. And I really do mean anything.
My bright yellow wooden bookshelf that's stationed in front of my bed caught my attention. I noticed that one of my favorite limited-edition Pandora Hearts manga collection hardbacks were slightly slanted more to the right than I had approved of. So, evidently, I created a mental note to straighten them when I finish showering.
My phone vibrated erratically in my palm, flooding my lock screen with messages from my two closest colleagues. I was forced into a 'business group chat' about a year and a half ago. And it is still continuously interrupting almost every unbusy part of my life-- like right now.
But... In some ways, I still love it.
________
-GROUP MESSAGE-
JM= Park Jimin
KT= Kim Taehyung
YG= Min Yoongi
KT: Hey guys, did you all get that email?
KT: There is an urgent professional staff meeting planned for tomorrow.
YG: We all know that, Taehyung. I'm in the same department as you.
YG: I receive the same emails.
YG: At the same time.
YG: From the same person.
KT: Okay I tried. And now I'm finished. I hope you get a flat tire on your way to work.
KT: Minnie, did you get the email?
JM: I'm in the process of leaving my house.
JM: I would appreciate it if you two paused this useless ongoing feud for more than 15 minutes.
JM: Each.
YG: I think I'm going to go with a red bowtie this morning, just because.
________
I tossed my phone down on the comforter with disinterest in seeing how the rest of that conversation would pan out. Of course, those two are grown men and won't stop at anything just because I said so. It's a bit sad that it's what they choose to do every morning, but that isn't any of my business; so, I'm choosing to ignore it for the time being and begin leaving my bed to waltz over to the wardrobe where I pick out my outfits for work every day.
Business-chic is what I strive for, and put together myself. I dabble in fashion a bit, but it doesn't hold a candle to the various projects and ideas that come out of the well oiled affluent machine that is J.W Hub one of the most successful fashion companies in Seoul.
While I'm showering, I make sure to spot any stain of any sort from previous showers or bathing and once the coast is clear I am allowed to finally first, breathe, second, clean myself as I would any other day.
The rumbling of my phone's notification bar being filled with what I know without even looking, are Yoongi and Tae going at it like cats and dogs. When I am fully dressed and my hair is styled with a part to the right, I throw in my wristwatch and march my way back inside my bedroom and decide to silence the group chat until after my shift -- thank god for mute buttons.
My purple plaid crossbody work bag sat on top of my reading chair untouched until I slung it over my shoulder and placed my phone in the small pocket on the side. As I'm exiting my room, I go through my mental checklist while walking to the front door.
Phone? Check.
Work bag? Check.
Glasses? Check.
Fixing my slanted limited edition Pandora Hearts manga collection hardbacks? Not checked.
I swiftly jogged back to my bedroom and carefully adjusted the spine so it was upright. Before I opened the door to step outside I rummaged through my bag and pulled a towelette from a small case to twist the knob without having to touch it. Approaching my vehicle, I smiled in content; and shortly, pulled off to my known destination, the downtown coffee shop.
////
I arrived at the downtown coffee shop and parked my car on the side of the street closest to the entrance. I slid on my pink latex gloves that I kept not in the glove compartment, but in a box on the back seat. I disposed of my used wipes in the trash can located just outside of the door upon my entry.
I was slapped in the face with the scent of coffee beans, milk, and cocoa wafting past my nostrils. I lodged myself right behind another customer-- at about arm's length to be safe. I drowned out the sound of their order and waited in until the person was finished with their order and received it safely.
"Next in line!" The deep male voice yelled from behind the counter. He and I made eye contact and he immediately grinned and brought out my order with no questions asked.
"Double-shot energy with extra vitamin B right here for you, sir." That was the best thing about being an assistant, I didn't have to say anything when completing a task.
Simply, I am given ordinances and do them as such; that comes easy. However, the stressful part of it transpired when I'm working on the weekends trying to revise a report or presentation for the next week. Often, Yoongi and Taehyung try to get me to take breaks-- but those are words coming from the marketing department who has several staff members to push them along with a project.
I work alone so that never happens.
"Thank you, Namjoon. I will see you again tomorrow." I gladly took hold of the cup and briskly exit the shop, not looking back even once. I kept my gloves on while I drove away from the place swiftly so the caffeinated liquid wouldn't be cold before I got to the company building.
The staff parking lot came into view fifteen minutes later, and I promptly drove my way to my assigned parking, disembarking from my vehicle with my belongings and the cup of caffeine. Many other workers began appearing and walking to the vestibule as well.
I made sure I don't cross paths with anyone to avoid unnecessary small talk. Mostly because the unbusinesslike conversations that the employees here have are 60% gossip and 40% 'what did you do the other day'? The problem is; gossiping is rude and unhealthy. And two... Well, I don't do much, so that question for me is irritating.
The interior of the building is tantamount to how any other well-built establishment would look. Its walls are pure white and the floors are marble and are in pristine condition. A long sleek quartz reception desk was to the left and a seating area to the right wall. I smiled and waved as I always did to the lady behind the desk and aimed for the elevator.
I pressed down on the 32nd button and patiently stood there until the metal doors retracted silently, and revealed two familiar faces.
"Oh hey, Jimin. We were just heading to the break room to grab something to eat. You coming with?" Taehyung chimed, I quickly stepped into the elevator before the door closed and backed into a corner to keep my distance.
Yoongi adjusted his crimson-colored bow tie around his neck and they both turned to face me; a disappointed look painted their faces. "I don't trust that place one bit. I think both of you know that by now."
Tae elbowed Yoongi in the rib and whispered 'say something'. The white-haired man perked up. "Oh! Come with us... Because we want you too." Taehyung sighed and gave Yoongi a disgusted look before focusing back on me.
"I know you have a problem with the seating and how close everyone is, but blueberry muffins are fantastic... And Mr. Wang can wait." I was preparing myself to hear a life long speech that would go on even outside of the confinements of the elevator. Taehyung has a hard time not constantly speaking his mind. But Mr. Wang can wait was far from perfect.
"I do this every morning and he expects it. It's in my job description. Good day you two, we will talk at lunch." A soft ding sounded to inform us that we were on the 20th floor where everyone just sort of... Loiters.
"Oh, we will talk. Come on, bowtie before they steal the whole case." Taehyung pushed his way out of the doors and Yoongi just rolled his eyes and followed along with Tae's commands.
The doors closed and I exhaled exasperatedly as the elevator ascends. Sure, hanging around them kept me from feeling solitary, and gave me something to look forward to in the day besides cleaning. But it didn't save me from reality which is my job.
Once I had risen to the 32nd floor I took my leave off to Mr. Wang's office. Opening the dark wooden door to reveal my Superior in a black suit, sitting behind his desk, and typing at his keyboard like an ore miner.
"Ah, Jimin-ah you're on time as always. Thank you for the beverage. You may sit it at my desk..." Mr. Wang's perfect smile pressed across his face as I got closer to his desk, sitting the cup down on the surface.
"... Have you gotten a response from Yui Fashion as of yet? Have a seat by the way." I sat down on a chair directly in front of his desk, and pulled out my laptop from my work bag, sitting it on my lap. I surfed past my current tabs and went straight to my inbox.
"Yes, sir they have. They said they would like to set up an external meeting with your approval maybe sometime in October. They are interested in being a part of our fall line-up, sir." Mr. Wang sat back in his chair and emitted a tooth sucking noise.
"That's three weeks from now... Send them an email and propose a closer date, will you? Also, add that we will be open to any new and splashy ideas." I nodded and started typing my reply with a well-mannered intro, beginning, and end.
"Did you edit and revise my presentation like I asked?" I nodded quickly pulling it up through Microsoft on another tab.
"Excellent, I will need you to be with me beforehand at the staff meeting to review it a second time." I walked my laptop over to his desk and simply isn't the final craft to him. Instantly he began inquiring.
"You changed the font, Mr. Park?"
"I thought it would be of use to make it bolder, so everyone can see the descriptions and statistics." He huffed and tilted his head to the right, looking at it as if it were a brand new puppy.
"I love it. You're brilliant..." He brightly smiled at me again, and I almost felt like I'm turning away-- not because I like it-- but because I've seen it so much that I've developed a sense of repulse.
"... Now, let's get started from the beginning." A thousand years passed once Mr. Wang was finished going over various emails, pre-viewing the presentation for our fall line-up. Mr. Wang quaintly handed me about ₩60,000 to, and I quote, 'Get you something nice to eat' and sent me on my way to the break room.
It was times like this where I wished I hadn't signed up for this job. Mr. Wang came off as a nice guy the majority of the time to other employees and firm managers, and they find him to be a walk in the park. In my perspective, he is nothing of the sort.
So to put it frankly; he creeps me out sometimes.
He says and does things that make me uncomfortable. Like leaning in closer to me when I back away, asking me random questions that have nothing to do with the task at hand, and staring at me for far too long.
I took the money with a grin and packed up my things to escape the awkward and unbearable atmosphere at the moment, cringing as I made my way to the elevators.
////
"Okay, so, you guys do anything fun yesterday?" The round table was quiet without one opinion shed from either Yoongi and I. It was 1 PM and I knew exactly what was coming next.
"No one?" Tae asked.
"Did you?" Yoongi shot back and Tae just informed it.
"I'm the one asking the question... Jimin, anything?" I stopped eating my home-made sandwich just to answer.
"I cleaned and then watched a movie." Taehyung squinted.
"Min, have you ever considered inviting someone over? I'm free after 3 pm every day." I shook my head and glanced at my wristwatch to check the time.
"I enjoy the silence." I said resuming my meal.
"But you have a two-bedroom apartment with a spare room that you don't even use... Doesn't that ever bother you?" I gulped before speaking.
"I could just use it as a workspace whenever I want to." Tae scooted his chair forward with wide eyes filled with inspiration.
"Or you could use it for someone else?" I tilted my head and Yoongi jumped in to clarify.
"He means for you to get a roommate." Tae clapped his hands and I already wanted 4 o'clock to be here so I could leave and go home, this very moment. And possibly never unmute that group chat.
"Before you disagree just think about it. You will have someone to talk to you and someone to help you clean. Unless that person is a slob then you might be out of luck." I scowled at the thought of a stranger barging into my home and dirtying my things while I'm gone at work. Or worse-- in front of my face.
"No, no. I'm fine. Cleaning is something everyone should know how to do on their own anyway." I took a few more bites out of my sandwich before there was a buzzing noise coming from my work bag. I took this as an opportunity to stand up and pack away my lunch knowing that I had duties to fulfill.
"You never know until you try, min. Text us after work." I waved Tae and Yoongi goodbye and exited the break room.
Roommate? That sounds like an excuse to let someone terrorize your home and simplistic lifestyle. All while paying for it.
Thanks, but no thanks.
Hours had passed after that and at this point, I had zipped and trotted all around the company building.
My shift was soon coming to a faithful close. It was about 4:25 PM and I was now on an important phone call in Mr. Wang's office talking to Yui's Head of design. The male told me something I knew Mr. Wang would be ecstatic after hearing.
"Okay thank you... Have a nice day, sir." I said hanging up the phone and Mr. Wang sat on the corner of his desk crossing his arm. I lift my chin up. I was taken aback by the fact that his dark brown eyes were already fixated on me.
"What's the status, did he agree?" I smiled wide.
"They agreed. He says he would like to meet over the weekend, he canceled the other one he had for that date." Mr. Wang punched the air victoriously.
"That's what I wanna hear! I'm so glad I have such a lovely assistant to succor me." Instead of thanking him I close my laptop and fit inside of my work bag.
"Well... I'll keep an eye out for any changes and I'll work on the presentation a little bit more." Mr. Wang licked his lips and nodded well watching me pick up my things and start heading towards the door.
"See you tomorrow with my coffee." I waved and reached into my bag to pull out another towelette and open the door to exit his office and eventually, exit the main doors of the company building.

When I'm settled inside my car I couldn't ignore the constant buzzing of my phone in the pocket of my bag just nagging to be picked up.
I looked at the screen and saw Taehyung had sent me something.
________
-TEXT MESSAGE-
KT= Kim Taehyung
JM= Park Jimin
KT: You won't regret it.
KT: Just give it a try!
KT: https://www.roommates.com
JM: Why are you sending me this?
JM: Fine. I'm taking a look.
________
I clicked on the following link Taehyung sent, and it took me to the app store with a description. I stared at the brightly colored blue icon for a while with curiosity. It was such a bland design-- almost careless--that there was no way this application could have the appropriate software.
'Search roommates nationwide.'
'Find your perfect match.'
'Sign up here!'
I rolled my eyes at the choice of words and lightly clicked the install button. While waiting for the percentage to increase, I scroll down to the reviews. I read the first few all of which were very good statements.
'Easy to use!'
'Great
compatibility'
Only a couple more seconds went by until I was able to open the app. It gave me the option to sign in or sign up and create a profile. It felt strange putting in my personal information to be logged to a place I have no idea about. But I threw aside my skepticism and went through with all the procedures of creating my account and adding some pictures of my home.
When it was completed another memo popped up.
'Great now you're all set to start browsing!'
'Make sure to read your roommate's bio carefully to find the right mate for you!'
It took me to another screen with various other accounts out on display for me to choose from. I swiped through some people that seemed pretty interesting but either way too old or had questionable habits.
I came to a stop when I saw the last one on the list.
It was a 22-year-old male with dark hair and glasses. He seemed extremely put together but then I read what was summarized under his profile picture.
________

22 years

Professional Gamer

₩114,000- 120,000
Bio:
I'm really chill,
I work out every day,
Easy to get along with,
And I'm a pretty decent cook
You can call me JK ;)
________
It gave me the option if I wanted to personally message this man. My thumb hovered over the option. I contemplated quickly all the pros and cons this could come with inviting this stranger into my home and allowing that person to get comfortable. I was so close to clicking away until I remembered what Tae had said at the table earlier about finding a good roommate.
'They could help you...'
Taehyung told me this same thing since he met me at the company. He frequently talked about how there's someone out there for me, or just like me. This was something I wholeheartedly doubted by probably 1000% if that's possible. Considering how things have gone in the past with other... Strangers.
I flicked my eyes to the photo of the male above.
But what if there's actually possibility...
I reluctantly tap the message button and open up a chat.

_________
I threw my phone down on the passenger seat and stared straight out of the windshield. My heartbeat sped up to an irregular pace that I usually don't ever get unless I'm being touched by someone.
I fumbled with my car keys, trying to start my vehicle. I took one more look at the tall building of J.W and closed my eyes.
Taehyung.
I hope you're right about this.
