Work Text:

When Uraraka was little she always wanted to be somebody else.

She would lay in bed at night and stretch her arms out as far as they could go pretending they were wings. Deep brown feathers would emerge from her skin and the ground would open up beneath her exposing an endless expanse of light blue. It was times like those where she could forget everything and fly around for hours, letting everything that happened that day disappear, good and bad. She’d open up her wings and forget the feeling she would get once she looked in the mirror. She would forget that she wasn’t good enough because there was no one to judge her except herself and the sky. Her town would disappear as she flew past and it was like “Uraraka” never existed at all. And she never wished for anything more.

“Wow, you were hungry today.” Izuku had the same gentle smile on his face that he usually had. Uraraka licked her fingers clean after finishing the last bite of her second burger.

She giggled, “Yeah, I didn’t have time to eat breakfast. I slept through my alarm.”

“I always set three to make sure that doesn’t happen.” Iida cleaned off the last bit of rice from his bowl. She felt as if her stomach was going to burst, the amount of food she ate put pressure on her chest and made breathing difficult.

“Deku, are you going to eat your bread?”

“No.” He hesitated. “But are you really hungry?” He handed it over and it didn’t take her five seconds to begin unwrapping it.

“I’ve always eaten more than most.” Her body wanted to reject it as soon as it touched her tongue. Despite what she told her friends she ate three times the normal breakfast and eating more wasn’t helping to keep that down. Each bite hurt but she continued to eat until there was none left.

“I’ll be right back. I have to go to the bathroom.” She wobbled while standing up. Slowly she made her way to the girls bathroom being careful not to further upset her stomach.

Placing her hands on her abdomen Uraraka grimaced after feeling her slightly inflated stomach. She traced her fingers from the curve of her hip around to the lump of fat that never seemed to melt away from her body. No amount of lost pounds would ever change that. Just managing to get to the bathroom Uraraka paused then smiled as Yaoyorozu made her way out. She gave a brief nod and a small closed mouth smile before walking off in the direction of the cafeteria. Yaoyorozu was skinny but she still had curves in all the right places, Uraraka couldn’t help but resent her for that.

The brunette walked into the bathroom and went from stall to stall making sure no one was inside. No one was. No one ever seemed to be when she had to do this. She entered the last stall, locked the door, and got on her knees in front of the toilet bowl. If someone else was here it would stop her, she would walk back to Izuku and eat a hundred more things before going home to do what she’s doing now.

Opening her mouth she brought her fingers to her face before sliding them down her throat. She could feel the humidity from her breath and the pulsing of her throat against her fingers.

She hated herself every time she did this, people like Yaoyorozu could control how much they ate, but she would just eat and eat and eat. No wonder she’s overweight, its because she can’t stop herself.

Her fingers slipped further down and Uraraka started gagging.

Izuku never looked at her, at least not in the way she wanted him to. He always treated her the same way he would treat Iida or Ashido. But why would he when she was like this, when she couldn't even watch her weight.

On the third gag Uraraka pulled her fingers out of her throat and pushed her head further into the bowl. The food burned as it came up. Chunks of bread and hamburger left her throat along with foul smelling stomach acid. After the first time her body wouldn’t stop, she heaved again and more hardly recognizable food came out. Then there was a third time and then nothing. Breathing hard she coughed up and spit out the remaining bits of partially digested food in her mouth.

Uraraka hated herself.

Looking in the toilet splotches of red filled the bowl, and she knew that wasn’t food. Shaking hands tore off some toilet paper before wiping her mouth and tongue. No matter how often she did this she always shook afterwards, and the brunette doubted that would change. Running fingers through her hair she pulled out a couple strands before standing and flushing the toilet. Going over to the sink she rinsed out her mouth and splashed some water on her face. Standing straight she stared at tired brown eyes

Looking at her reflection in the mirror Uraraka had no trouble seeing the wings she would always use to fly.
