Summary
The Ryland Grace Memorial Diner sat between a construction site and a cluster of small apartments on the recovering streets of San Francisco.
It was founded in 1972, renamed in 2051, and in 2053, a statue of a schoolteacher was erected within its walls. Now, it attracted tourists and students alike, bright eyes and eager minds all competing for a view of Earth’s most beloved man in man’s most beloved habitat.

Summary
It’s nearly forty years on the dot since the launch of the Hail Mary that a transmission is received on its retired frequency. The world has been through hell and is on unsteady feet again, the Saving Grace treaty that ended World War Three and ushered in a new age is thirteen years old, and people are beginning to trust in hope.
And then, on one fine spring morning, the Deep Space Network detects a blip near the Kuiper belt. Two days later, the transmission arrives.
“My name is Astra Grace. I am the daughter of Ryland Grace and Olesya Ilyukhina. I come in peace with a small Eridian congregation to bury my parents on their home world. We are not armed. We come in peace.”

Two, we are heading ten light years in the opposite direction, and I am never going home.
The never going home part I was prepared for. Hell, I’ve got enough meth to kill a horse stashed somewhere on this ship, and my loved ones have a lot of really great letters to open when this is all over, but that’s not the point.
The point is, I was ready to die. I was planning on it. I was going to be part of the crack team that saved Earth and die a hero out in space on some kind of epic high. These two have just totally fucked me over.

Hurtling through space on the trip back to Erid, an accidental stowaway doctor realises she's slept through the entire world-saving adventure and is now on the return trip to an alien planet.
