Summary
Disaster strikes the Hail Mary on its way back to Earth. The taumoeba escape their breeding tanks, and make it to the fuel lines. Stranded in space just outside the Tau Ceti system, Dr Ryland Grace can't do anything. He can't go save Rocky, he can't go save Earth. Exhausted, out of options, and distraught, he fills the ship with nitrogen, and takes his final breath.
Next thing he knows, his eyes flutter open in his San Francisco apartment. It's a year before ArcLight touches down on Earth, but he remembers the Petrova Task Force.

Erid had lost hope of the crew they sent to space ever returning. And then they spot a different ship coming towards them and a pebble talking to them over the radio about how they and Rocky found the solution to the star-killer problem. Chaos, of course, ensues.

Summary
The arrival at Erid is a momentous occasion. Rocky is excited and thrilled. Ryland is overwhelmed. But the reunion is happy, beautiful, amazing.
Or that's what it should have been. Except Rocky gets hurt, Ryland is left to try and communicate with an alien planet, and everyone is scrambling to figure out how to do this. To Grace, this is incredible but also bittersweet - he got Rocky home safely with the taumoeba, now he just gets... to starve. To Erid, this is insane - how did Rocky show up in an alien spaceship with a child???
...
Ryland Grace is stuck trying to speak Eridian, immediately makes himself sound like a child, and Rocky's world and family scramble to help this strange pebble. Misunderstandings galore, alongside hurt/comfort and angst and fluff.

What if Grace was younger than we all thought? What if Grace was like 12 to 13, and his mannerisms are the reason Rocky treats him like a child? When comparing Grace's way of acting to actual human children, while watching films, and then doing some research. Grace is Pebble, and sadly, he will never live this down. 🤣
Or
Due to time relativity and the oddities of space and astrophage radiation, Grace has grown younger, and his aging has stagnated. Something Rocky is grateful for, but also something that will bring a lot of misunderstandings for Grace. Such as being Rocky's new alien pebble.
