"That’s the problem, Kakashi!" Eri interrupted "You don’t say anything that’s- that’s meaningful or intentional…you’re just...here in my life…and…." Her heart raced, the pain bubbling over into white hot fury "Is this what you wanted? Is this why you’ve been trying to insert yourself so much in my life? Were you trying to sabotage my relationship? Do you want to ruin my life?"
His eye widened, a flicker of hurt crossing his exposed features. "No, Eri. I didn’t—"
"Then what do you want? Why have you been doing the things you’ve been doing!?" Eri screamed, now trembling. "What did that night mean to you? I don’t understand!"
Kakashi took a deep breath. The mask he put up against the entire world cracking and then completely falling away at the desperate plea of the woman before him.
The casual demeanor he was known for melted away, replaced with something raw. Something that immediately pulled in Eri’s attention because it was something she had never seen before from the man in front of her.
"I want you to be happy..." He confessed quietly. "But I’m selfish, okay? I- I can’t be happy without you. I want to be happy too."
