Summary
The first time Jess notices her is at tryouts: fifty yards away, throwing long tosses across the field, showing off a little. She’s striking, with her big eyes, dark hair, brow furrowed and face focused under her cap. But what really catches Jess is the smirk that emerges when she snags a sudden high throw like it’s no big thing at all, throwing her glove up above her head to grab it like it’s instinct, as easy as breathing, in a way Jess recognizes viscerally, on a cellular level, a sharp feeling of attraction tugging at her body in response. The woman's face shifts into an easy grin, cocky in the way that drives Jess absolutely crazy in a woman, and she feels her breath stop.

Summary
She and Jess are friends. No matter what. Even when the evidence seems pretty damn compelling, it doesn’t mean anything. They’re friends.
But she’s never had a friend like Jess.Five times Lupe tries to convince herself they're still just friends, and one time they definitely cross the line. And then a 100k epilogue.
(Jess and Lupe inventing friends with benefits? It's likely.)

Summary
Jess’ eyes flash between the train ticket and Lupe’s face. Lu is smirking and her cheeks are tinged red.
"Are you fucking with me, Garcia?" Is the first thing that comes out of Jess’ mouth once the initial shock has passed.
"Y’know, I always thought Saskatchewan would be nice in fall. No better time to cross it off my bucket list, right?"
*
They're teammates, friends, brothers, lovers. Lupe travels back to Moose Jaw with Jess to work on her family's farm.

Summary
Jess takes a final drag and maybe she performs a little, because she wants to see what’ll happen: maybe she licks her lips before, maybe she leans so the jut of her collarbone stands out underneath her shirt, maybe she makes a point to catch García’s eye when she inhales, when the smoke pulls into her chest, when she hitches her breath to keep it there.
Because García is watching, she has Jess pinned with her eyes, and this is probably a goddamn catastrophe of an idea (come on, don’t shit where you eat, McCready) but something about it feels alive to Jess, feels jittery and itchy like the buzz of a radio, like a snakebite under her skin. It feels right when the whole fucking day has felt wrong.
