Gideon settles slowly, lips still pressed in a thin line but less ready to bolt. “I’m trying to say I’d like us to be friends. On an ongoing basis. Not just one-life-saved, one-drink, one-night. Real friends.” That worms its way right into the center of something old and knotted in Gideon’s chest. She’s not stupid, this woman very obviously wants something extra too. But she can count on one hand the amount of times someone’s said that to her in her short life. “So, what do you say?”
Haltingly, Gideon nods.
Gideon thinks she’s getting herself a sugar mama. Harrow feels she’s getting sabotaged by a scrupleless competitor for the next official Lyctoral appointment in the Los Angeles First Central Church of the Great Resurrection. Cytherea knows she’s getting an excellent bargain for the price she’s paying, but that won’t stop her from wringing the most bang possible out of her buck.
