Summary
I lived with this hunger long before the Hail Mary. This is nothing new. I’m fine.
Right up until Rocky asks another question.
“When last time you touch other human person skin, question?”
Oh. Oh no. “When I… a few days after I first woke up here.”
Rocky starts to relax for a split second, but then tightens when something occurs to him.
“Grace crewmates dead when you wake up. You said this, statement. You not even know your own name, remember nothing, see dead bodies, confirm?”
I nod, because if I open my mouth I will gag.
“When last time Grace touch ALIVE human person, question.”
I swallow thickly. I don’t answer aloud because I know Rocky can hear the hitch in my breath. My stomach churns with fresh bile. He senses my vital signs tick over into stress patterns and goes very, very still again.
“Grace. When last time, question.”
I clench my jaw so hard my temples ache, and beg him with my eyes to just stop.
“Grace. Please say not when… when Evil Stratt humans put you to sleep.”
I can taste grass.

Summary
Grace is fed up with being in bed and constantly being ordered around by his medical team.
It's been over five Earth months since the Hail Mary arrived at Erid. Thanks to the ship's extensive collection of literally every piece of human knowledge ever, the Eridians were able to help Grace, but recovery from starvation is a long road. For Grace, it helps to have his best friend and his spouse rooting for him daily and keeping him company, especially since recovery can get pretty boring. He decides he needs some fresh (dome) air, or he is going to go insane from boredom.

Summary
After a minorly life-threatening incident aboard the Hail Mary, Grace can't sleep. Rocky takes the opportunity to indulge their...less than scientific curiosity about their leaky human friend's body. Non-sexual intimacy abounds.
How fragile this creature is, Rocky realizes. Its endoskeleton is so flimsy, and so far beneath the soft skin it should really be protecting. How easily injured. How malleable. How easily Rocky would be able to crush the tiny blood vessels (“capillaries”) near the surface, leaving marks that remain tender and sore and turn many colors (“bruises”). Humans etch things into their outer skin, sometimes, for decoration or religious reasons. They use tiny needles to embed colored pigments just below the surface, where it remains visible to other humans forever (“tattoos”). Rocky wonders if Grace has any tattoos. Rocky thinks about being embedded underneath Grace’s skin.

Summary
Ever since their star stared dying, their planet cooling, and their mate leaving with 22 other Eridians to find a solution, Adrian had been waiting. Waiting for the ship to dock at the space elevator, waiting for their star to be saved, waiting for their mate to return. They waited a very very very long time.
They were incredibly glad they did.
