Summary
The few weeks since Suchdol have been kind, and Hans finds it hardly even bothers him now. It’s little more than an irritation. The bone-deep fear of the siege is now thoroughly overshadowed by warm, indulgent days of eating, drinking, fucking. He could dredge it all up, all the dread and despair, but why would he? Why wouldn’t he let it lie and simply enjoy the last hazy summer days, here with Henry?

Summary
Hans is rapidly starting to hate Ruthard Palace. He’s sick of staring at nothing but the Ruthard’s dour decorative choices, the same miserable colours and motifs in Kuttenberg that he’d had plenty of time to grow weary of in Maleshov. He’s sick of not being able to say this with the would-be scion of the Ruthards somehow always within earshot, lest he cause offence. He's sick of Brabant, who he’s now spent far too much time with and has heard every one of his stories at least twice. He’s sick of Žižka and Hynek cutting him out of conversations, out of decisions, out of his rightful place at the table.
He’s been here for barely three days, but if he has to remain within these four walls for even ten minutes more, he’s going to lose his mind.
Henry co-ordinates a jailbreak to give Hans a small reprieve from his effective house arrest, and Hans gets a glimpse into what Henry was doing in Kuttenberg while he was being held in Maleshov.

Summary
“They’ve got Bartosch in the dungeons,” Henry says, coming to stand next to Hans on the wooden battlements of Nebakov. There’s still dried blood on his bottom lip, one half of it swollen and split. It throws off the usual symmetry of Hans’ slightly downturned mouth, and exaggerates the exhaustion starting to settle on them both.

Summary
Lucanis Dellamorte was entirely too put together for a man who was burdened with an entire litany of troubles. He was only recently liberated from a year of cruel experimentation in an underwater prison, currently possessed by a demon as a result of said experimentation, very recently bereaved as a consequence of said liberation, and now tasked with killing a god as a last instruction from his dead grandmother. Rook felt stressed just thinking about it, but there Lucanis was, calmly kneading semolina flour whilst wearing what Rook could only assume was an unreasonably expensive shirt and waistcoat.
Frankly, it was weird.

Summary
Despite his reclusive tendencies, Viago De Riva was more than familiar enough with the Cantori Diamond to know there were two entrances: the street-level archway for patrons and guests, and the rooftop-level door for Crows. If he felt slightly less welcome to the latter entryway on this particular visit, he chose to ignore that.

And you have fixed my life — however short. You did not light me: I was always a mad comet; but you have fixed me. I spun round you a satellite for a month, but I shall swing out soon, a dark star in the orbit where you will blaze. - Wilfred Owen

Summary
“How did you…”
Hans trails off as Henry rises to his feet, every movement taut as stretched leather. The birds screech in the trees; Henry turns his back to the fire, to Hans, and gazes across the overlook into the forest below. His gloved hands are in fists by his sides. Morning light glints faintly on the rusted rivets of his brigandine.
Here it comes, whispers a faint voice in the back of Hans’s head.
Henry tracks down a poacher in the woods. Unrelated: Lord Hans Capon is experiencing possibly the lowest moment of his life to date. One thing leads to another, someone takes a sword (?) wound in the thigh, and everything gets more complicated.
Set during the canon KCD 2 storyline; spoilers for the Bird of Prey quest.

Summary
Up this close, he was a jarring reflection. The hair was too dark to Hans's yellow, the cheeks too round, the eyes too exaggerated in their downward slant. But even with the features jumbled and incorrect, Henry still resembled the lord Hans saw in himself. A reflection of a reflection, warped and befuddling and agitating, a familiar word repeated one too many times until its shape and sound became nonsensical.
Henry.
Henry.
Lord Henry.
Hans knew the saying: the clothes make the man. At this moment it rang undeniably true. To all the world, Hans was the peasant now, and Henry the lord. Henry's demeanor hadn't even changed; he draped himself on the tub lip as elegantly as a bolt of cloth decorating the arm of a throne – while Hans knelt on the floor like a servant. To change their stations so simply was as ludicrous as it was exciting, and the fact that Henry didn't even need to put on airs to fit the part…
Well. If tonight was a night for playing dress-up games, Hans wasn't about to lose.
"Turn around," he commanded. "I'm going to wash your hair."
---
In the Rattay baths, Henry puts on Hans's clothes by accident. Hans returns the favor.

Summary
“If we needed anyone to blend in and be inconspicuous,” Viago stresses the word inconspicuous, “in the event that something were to happen, you would be an asset.”
“I see.” Rook reads through the letter. Masquerade ball. Venatori threat. The First Talon requests your presence. She weighs her options - how honest to be, how much to say. “This seems risky.”
or: a Crow masquerade ball.
