The answer to why do you always end up in my bed when I have furnished you with a perfectly functional one of your own? lies behind another question Alhaitham cannot ask right now.

    Summary

Kaveh doesn’t like it when Alhaitham cooks for him. He seems to think that just because he’s living in Alhaitham’s home, Kaveh should be a good guest and do more than his fair share of house chores. Which Alhaitham thinks could be a great deal for the both of them, being a person who’d always hated cleaning his room as a child, but why does Kaveh have to complain about it at the same time? Why can’t Alhaitham just do the house chores if Kaveh is going to complain every time he puts something on the kitchen counter? Does Kaveh feel bad if Alhaitham does housework, or doesn’t he? “You know me,” says Alhaitham slowly, and looks up to see Kaveh tying an apron tight around the small of his waist. Kaveh looks back over his shoulder, as if to check that Alhaitham is watching. “I only do anything if it suits my interests,” says Alhaitham.

    Summary

The short of it: Kaveh caught a very rare manifestation of the Withering that was not Eleazar after clearing out a remaining pocket of said Withering by himself. Alone. In the woods. Following directions the Traveler scribbled on a tree trunk somewhere, probably. This conclusion will eventually be drawn.

The long of it: Kaveh went home coughing up flower petals in a stroke of truly poetic misfortune, and if Alhaitham's presence exacerbated his mysterious new problem terribly, well, that was just one more way in which Kaveh would have to endure excruciating pain for fear of losing a man he could not have, did not deserve to have, but was too greedy to let go of.

    Summary

Alhaitham and Kaveh had achieved the monumental task of letting their not-relationship move into the next stage, dropping the "not". They even had a whole new house built about it, and moved in and everything.

Now, location slightly changed, Alhaitham got to enjoy the small burden of dealing with new neighbors.

Kaveh's loudmouth old professor, an ex-Fatui agent, a shut-in Liyuean author whose presence was only made known through her cats... Alhaitham had dealt with far more potent adversaries, surely?
