    Megumi took a step forward, towering over Yuji. He had grown taller over the years, giving him four inches on the younger boy. “Are you so sure about that?” He breathed. Their faces were close now, chests almost touching.

    Feeling Megumi’s breath fan over his face wasn’t helping Yuji’s brain formulate a response. What was the question? Yuji had to tilt his head up to look at Megumi when he was this close, a fact that thrilled him. It wasn’t until his own caramel-colored eyes met dark blue ones that he realized just how close they were. “I’m… I’m sure. Yeah. Super sure,” he whispered.

    Megumi just stared at him for a moment, letting the silence stretch. It wasn’t uncomfortable, nothing was uncomfortable between them. They had known each other for four years now, came back from the brink of death over and over, fought as allies and enemies. As much as Megumi tried to fight it, they had grown close. Which is exactly why he knew he could get away with his next move.

    Yuji watched with rapt fascination as Megumi leaned forward, almost connecting their lips, but at the last second, he swept right and found Yuji’s ear to whisper, “You’re an idiot.”

    Their steps halt. Megumi turns his head, and there’s something in his expression that makes Yuuji’s breath hitch. Half-shadowed, the colours of his eyes seem even more startling. His hair shines, dark as obsidian, where it spills over his forehead, and suddenly it is hard to think, even harder to breathe. Yuuji almost recoils from it, from the want that sinks in, sudden and overwhelming as a tide.

    As Yuuji jogs down the hallway towards the showers, Megumi feels a brush of fur against his ankles. He jumps, whipping his head down, coming face-to-face with one singular rabbit.

    The rabbit stares back at him with unblinking red eyes as Megumi tries to process the situation. He didn’t realise he had released his technique at all. He didn’t even sense the cursed energy of his rabbit.

    “I’m in love with Satoru,” Suguru says again.

    “So you’ve said,” Shoko says, sounding wearier than she has any right to be. “You want the good news or the bad news?” Suguru opens his mouth to answer, but Shoko apparently deems the answer unnecessary as she continues. “The good news is I’ve figured out what’s wrong with you, the bad news is that you probably won’t like it.”

    Suguru stares at Shoko, hoping he doesn’t have to vocalize his obvious question.

    “Whatever’s blocking your cursed energy also has the ability to stop you from saying certain things—specifically, lies,” she clarifies. “Basically, your body is forcing you to tell only the truth for the time being.” She shrugs. “If you try to resist, well. You know what happens.”

    Suguru continues staring at Shoko.

    “So it’s true, then?” he says slowly. “I’m in love with Satoru?”
