Summary
They’d shoved themselves into a tiny corner booth to avoid the crowd gathered in what seemed to be the only establishment still open in this weather. Now, his leg is touching hers, his arm is draped behind her on the back of the booth, and Donna’s all too aware of her lowered inhibitions.

Summary
“You can’t walk in your bare feet,” Josh cries, voice rising in pitch.
“Why not?” She challenges, that stupid, adorable pout on her face, this time paired with the wide eyes that he’s already fallen for far more than he cares to admit.
“I don’t know…” He throws his arms up in a shrug. “You’ll get a disease or something.”
“You have to know I’m all up to date on my tetanus shots,” she says with a snort of laughter.
“Well, I’m not letting you walk home like that.”
Donna closes the distance between them, her eyes narrowed and her steps uneven, her heels dangling precariously from her fingers.
“What?” She scoffs. “You gonna carry me or something?”

Summary
“Can I tell you one of my fantasies now?” Josh swallows, hands trembling as they come up to undo his top few buttons. “You’re wearing that red dress.”
A flicker of confusion crosses her face.
“What red dress?”
“You had a date.” He clears his throat, lowers his gaze. Can feel himself blushing. “His name was Todd. You were leaving straight from work. And you had on this unbelievable red dress.”
“Oh,” she breathes, eyes wide and awed. “You remember that?”

Summary
Josh sits back with a dejected sigh, can’t help but think that maybe this is just one of those things, yet another reminder from the universe that he and Donna aren’t meant to happen.
But it doesn’t feel like that anymore. Not after this morning, not after the terrible year he spent without her. No, it feels like maybe the stars are finally aligning, like this might be their last chance, so he jumps to his feet, all but pushing Bram aside as he sidesteps the table and jogs the length of the terrace.
“Josh, what —“ Ronna starts to ask him, but he ignores her, can feel both her and Bram watching him with a burning curiosity as he tries to stop her before it’s too late.
