Summary
Harley had absolutely no fucking idea how expensive life actually was.
Sure, he’d always heard adults complain about bills. Rent. Electricity. Heating. Whatever else grown-ups paid for. But it had always been background noise. Like people whining about Mondays or traffic.
Something adults just… did.
But now he was sitting on his bed staring at his bank account and realizing adults had not been exaggerating.
Once everything got paid, there was basically nothing left. -

When Jason Todd died on that fateful April day, Bruce was tempted to just... stop. To let the world know he was Batman, and that it'd just lost a hero in Jason Todd.
And so he did.
It didn't keep him from mourning the death of his son.
Or: Bruce quits being Batman in the wake of Jason's death, tells the world who he is, then retires to Montana and slowly finds healing. And when Jason comes back to life six months later, and Talia tells him 'you remain unavenged,' he can't find any evidence to support that, so he goes home.

Tony Stark was dying.
The palladium poisoning was getting worse by the day, and no amount of chlorophyll sludge, whiskey, or denial was going to fix it.
Then New York called to inform him that his biological son’s guardians had died unexpectedly, leaving Tony with temporary emergency custody of a fourteen-year-old kid who very clearly wanted nothing to do with him.
There was a reason Tony never wanted to be a father.

It was… a child.
A teenage boy, his face pale and his eyes impossibly wide. The kid looked like he’d been dragged backward through a hedge, his hair wild and greasy and his clothing disheveled. His face was bruised, and, rather alarmingly, red friction burns circled his wrists.
“I-Iron Man?”
What the fuck.
“You know, I get that a lot,” said Tony, lowering the gun.
Or: in a dystopian AU where Ross won and the Avengers are forced into hiding, Tony is on the fast track to becoming an antisocial recluse full of hatred for the world. But maybe an enhanced teenager stumbling upon their safe house could change all that.

Summary
Tony Stark thought he was tired of HYDRA. The assholes kept raiding his home, trying their best to steal back Bucky Barnes. Then the Avengers raided one of HYDRA's bases, and he discovered a fourteen-year-old boy named Peter Parker being treated like a mere weapon.
Now, Tony was beyond done with HYDRA. And he had this silent kid in his apartment. Tony had no idea what to even do with kids, all he knew was Peter Parker deserved to be seen as a kid first. Surely taking care of a kid couldn't be that hard?
