Here, physically, sitting at the table, he'd meant. Here with Shouto every day, stationed outside his door, devoted to his personal safety and prophesied success.
Shouto's blooming grin is lovely- shy and pleased.
Shouto doesn't smile in the castle, Iida realizes. Not ever.

"Would you mind if I stayed here while you do that?"
Shouto asked quietly, gesturing over at the massive stack of papers in front of Iida as he took another sip of what Tenya had now identified as hot chocolate, due to the very distinct smell. Tenya wasn't really surprised by the question. They often spent time together, finding moments and excuses to keep each other close. And this wasn't the first nor last time Shouto would ask to stay in the common room while Iida did school work.
"I would be happy if you'd keep me company."
Or: After the war Todoroki and Iida naturally become a lot closer. With the shared trauma and experiences they've gone through, neither of them have ever questioned helping with the aftermath. -

Summary
Shoto enjoys this silence. He doesn’t enjoy all silence, but something about this one pleases him. There’s a hum of warmth underneath it, and it comes with none of the awkward coughs and pressure to fill the air as it would at other times. It envelops him in a safety bubble, where nothing in the world exists but himself, Iida, and the study material in a single dorm room.
It’s a bit disorienting, the fact that Iida himself is the one that pops the bubble.
The sound would be hardly noticeable to most. A soft, fuzzy sound coming from under Iida’s breath. It’s melodic in a subtle way floating through the silence and becoming a part of the mood, rather than cutting through it.
Shoto thinks he likes it.
or, Shoto falls in love with Iida using his 5 senses + 1 time he uses them all
