“Do you remember our first kiss?” she asks, her fingers tracing over the lines of my back.
“Yes,” I tell her, because she asked me a direct question and I have no choice but to tell her what she wants to hear. This time when she pinches me, it’s not with her fingers, but with her augments. It’s a reprimand that tells me my answer wasn’t enough. “It was our third date,” I recite. I have a memory of a kiss in my archives that I’m not allowed to delete, though I don't know if that was actually our first kiss or not. The memory of that kiss forms the basis of the story I’m telling now.

Summary
Joseph had always dreamt of flying—being regaled with stories as a kid of the incremental march towards flight, and the veritable explosion of flying machines that happened after, instilled in him a sense of wonder at the infinite world aloft.
