Summary
That night, when Catti is downstairs getting a cup of water, she stops dead in Noelle’s kitchen doorway.
At the livingroom piano Kris is sitting in their pajamas. Not playing but shifting their fingers across the keys like muscle memory. Their face has a gentle kind of sadness.
At the top of the stairs, barely visible, is the looming shadow of December.
Catti presses herself back against the doorframe as Dess walks slowly down the stairs, staring at Kris. The way she’s looking at them makes Catti want to hide, makes her heart hammer like she’s in danger. She can’t tell what it is about the look, but she just feels somehow that it’s wrong.

Summary
She sounded like she was reaching, trying to find something, anything that could entice him enough to give enough of a shit to try this out. Her eyebrows were puckered together despite the smile she kept up, eyes worried as they flicked over his face. She was nervous.
Maybe she had the right of it. She was, really, one of the only reasons he was here.
Malevola helps Sonar out of his handcuffs.

Summary
It began, as every mission did, with a call.
OR
Sonar has been reinstated on the Z Team following the Red Ring riots, and he’s doing great. Like, so good. He’s definitely not hiding his complicated feelings on the matter behind the usual dick jokes and innuendos. If only the villain of the week would stop asking questions.

Summary
“Just wanted to check on you.”
Sonar stares into the ceiling. “I'm managing,” he says. “I'm occupying myself with heavy, philosophical thinking so I don't give into the urge to bash my head in with a rock.”
It's true. He's antsy. He has been, for this past week. He wishes he could get back to work as soon as he can, regain that sense of normalcy he foolishly gambled away. But there's been so, so many foreign things he's snorted or rubbed in his gums during his stay with the Red Ring that leave him a husk today. A snake with skin that refuses to shed.
Or, Sonar, after rejoining the Z-Team. An exploration of compulsions, control, love, presence, and the stock market.
