Summary
He saw the image clearly in his mind: Wei Wuxian listening diligently as Lan Sizhui and Lan Jingyi made him practice pronunciation and repeat vocabulary words before he interrupted and asked them how to curse in Gusu. Wei Wuxian sitting hunched against his desk in the JIngshi late at night, pouring over linguistics texts that discussed regional differences by the light of a single candle. Wei Wuxian putting time and effort into learning more about the place Lan Wangji called home. It sent a wave of strong emotion flowing through his body, and his body was already moving before his mind caught up to him.

Wei Wuxian has been secretly learning the Gusu regional dialect. Lan Wangji has big feelings about it.

“The rock,” Jingyi says, voice very very unstable. “Hit the rock, shixiong, fuck, no time to break the wards, hit the rock —”
The Killing Chord strikes Jingyi’s appointed boulder. It cracks that in half, too.
Not half a second after Lan Yuan follows Jingyi into the crevice, the yaoguai strikes the stone, talons scrabbling at the crevice, beak pecking at the entrance they’ve made themselves. A red, furious, glowing eye peers in after them, and Lan Yuan stumbles back blindly, vaguely downwards. He’s staring at the entrance, at the clear and present danger. Neither of them are looking backward.
In hindsight, it’s the worst mistake they make all day.
Wei Ying has spent years sealed under a mountain. It's just his luck that the kids who break him out of it are Lans.

Summary
It truly was beautiful here, serene. The light blue sky could be seen peeping through the tops of the tall trees, giving them some reprieve from the beating sun. Birds flitted to and fro, going about their business with a pleasant sing-song. The breeze was gentle as it kissed their skin, rustling through the leaves and carrying with it the refreshing scents of nature: pine trees, the earthy smell of dirt, fresh water.
It was truly picturesque in every way.
So, given how perfect the Lan sect and all their surroundings seemed to be, why the hell couldn't Wei Wuxian smell them?
OR: Omega Wei Wuxian goes to study at the Cloud Recesses and is unnerved by the lack of pheromones coming from the Lans. Luckily for him, a pleasant sandalwood smell keeps appearing in his room whenever he's away.

Summary
Lan Wangji had too much power over Wei Wuxian. Wei Wuxian already couldn’t think when he was around Lan Wangji; if he ended up catching stupid feelings for the stupid alpha — wanting to date him and kiss him and make a nest for him — it was over. Wei Wuxian’s life would absolutely be over. Because he would do something stupid, like, forget to take his birth control, or make a down payment on a house with a cute little backyard, or buy a fucking eco-friendly hybrid SUV with enough room for kids and a pet.
Or Wei Wuxian baby traps himself into a relationship he'd wanted for years with an incredibly reliable and sexy alpha. The horror.
