For the past two weeks it had been like this: get home from work, take a shower, research until the late hours of the night, try and squeeze in some sleep, get up early in the morning, make breakfast, and do it all over again. It was a mind-numbing routine that she couldn’t wait to break out from - the only outlier that kept her from breaking down in tears was Wolfgang.
Wolfgang.
He was always so patient with her. Whenever she was stressed from work, he never pushed, only offered his silent support as she clung onto him. She was grateful for him. But it didn’t mean that he wanted to get used to this routine of hers, this routine where the only time they got to be in each other’s arms was when they slept.

Shane grabbed a teaspoon from the drawer next to him and dipped it into the sauce, turning to face Ilya with his hand cupped underneath it to catch the drips. As he moved around the island, Ilya’s pulse picked up again and his brain smashed together a montage of nights like this from some imagined future. Shane cooking for him in their kitchen, offering his creation up for Ilya’s judgement. Maybe there would be a nice playlist on. Maybe the pasta would be actual pasta, not chickpea. Maybe they’d be cooking for more than just the two of them. Christ.
Balancing on the cusp of a something new, Ilya boards a flight to Shane's cottage for two weeks.

The TV shuts off, effect disconcerting as two familiar silhouettes sit on a couch, a curly mop of hair and a neatly combed back wolfcut. A tiny, bald head comes into view when Ilya turns, encasing a baby in his arms, so cute and pudgy and under no dispute is definitely a Hollander-Rozanov.
“...What?” he asks with a grin, a mildly annoyed expression on Shane’s face.
Shane reaches out to close hands over the baby’s ears, “You watch your back, Rozanov,” he mumbles threateningly, “The moment I return on ice, your winning streak is over,”
; Ilya gets Shane pregnant. A happy accident if anything.
