Marius puts his quill down and into the black velvet box he keeps it in. He’s heard enough.
Slowly, he turns around so he faces the scene. They’re beautiful, Marius already knew that, of course, but it doesn’t affect him less when he gets to see them like this. His Amadeo’s back tensing and relaxing with every thrust, holding his weight on his arms so he can gaze at the flushing cherub under him. Marius has the urge to paint them, to immortalise them on a canvas– no, a wall, to assure such beauty will endure until the end of time. Perhaps he will, later. He’s got more pressing issues now.

The hand is intact too. There is a small brownish mole on his wrist, so similar to Lestat's—but no, it must be ash that accidentally fell on that exact spot. His fist is clenched, curled up on itself. It is a typical sign of suffering, one that Louis has learned to recognize in the hands of all his victims. He can see a ring on his ring finger. It is a beautiful gold wedding band, adorned with two emeralds at each end. It is the same as Lestat's.
OR
Lestat dies during Mardi Gras, his body burning before Louis has the sense to pull him from the flames.

Ah, Louis should have known better. Too late to slip out now, all he can do is start his walk towards the exit as Molloy starts to follow. "What’s that?”
“I mean, the media’s all over this angle about how your husband and Lioncourt were like debate rivals or whatever at Georgetown Prep. Very cute, very fated to be enemies and all that.” He punctuates this point with what Louis thinks are supposed to be jazz hands. And then, he goes in for the kill. “But no one seems to have picked up on how you and Lioncourt were at Tulane at the same time. You guys know each other?”
Or: Polls suggest Armand, Governor of California, is a narrow favorite to become the 46th President of the United States. His husband, Louis de Pointe du Lac, is just trying to make it through the campaign season in one piece. This would be an easier task if his husband’s opponent was someone other than Louis’s ex.
