Summary
Ryland has been avoiding him.
Not that Simon blames him. It’s one thing to be told that Simon is an experienced killer, it’s another to actually see it in practice.
After a wild Eridian creature attacks the biodome and threatens to break it open, Simon is forced to call on his old Butcher instincts to kill it before it can kill them. Afterwards, however, Ryland won't even look at him, and Simon can't help but fear that it's only a matter of time before Ryland works up the nerve to tell Simon that he can no longer stand being around him, and kicks him out of the biodome.
Then, about a week after the incident, Simon comes home to find that Ryland has prepared an extra special dinner for him. This must be it. His last meal in the biodome before Ryland sends him away forever.
Only, it turns out there may be something else behind Ryland's recent behaviour than what Simon expected...

Summary
Grace wakes up on a strange ship to gunfire, Adrian protecting him, and no clue was "C.O.I." means.
Simon is in the middle of losing his mind when space folds and a musical rock is suddenly taking up some of the SM-13's limited space.
Excerpt:
Grace takes a deep breath and tells the Hail Mary, "Scan for any signs of Eridian life, traces of xenonite, or radio signals. Do not report traces of Adrian or this radio signal.""Scanning for Eridian life. Inconclusive." Grace clenches his jaw, staring at the microphone like he'll hear what he wants if he doesn't blink. "Scanning for traces of xenonite. Inconclusive." Next to him, Adrian shifts, a low-tone humming emanating from them in an attempt to soothe Grace and themself. "Scanning for radio signals. One active signal found."
Relief floods through Grace, his breath rushing from him and his legs almost buckling. "Can you determine the source? Where is it?" he asks.
"The signal originates from below the surface of this moon's ocean."
"The signal is coming from within the ocean?"
"Yes, Dr. Grace."
"But that's impossible. We lost the SM-13's signal days ago," Ava says.

Summary
"I really wish I could give you a hug right now," Grace laughs wetly, burying his face in his hands. He imagins Simon's hand on his back, patting him steadily, assuringly.
Grace was the first person in a long time to give Simon hope. Pure hope, with no suffering needed for it to be justified. He gave it willingly, and he gave it often.
Simon clutched the receiver tighter, brows furrowed and heart aching as he listened to his hope cry.
"We'll find a way. There's nothing I want more, so I promise you, we'll find a way."

Grace wakes up from his nap on Erid only to find himself in a windowless submarine, his only company being the deep voice across the intercom.

Summary
Simon has never been good with kids. When a child appears out of thin air in his submarine and the COI still refuses to pull him up, all Simon can do is protect her from the horrors of the ocean. Even if he knows there's not much hope for either of them to live.
Ryland Grace is living his best life on Erid. He has a wonderful best friend, scientific colleagues who respect him, and students who adore him. Unless he decides to make the journey back to Earth, however, he doesn't expect to see another human any time soon. He certainly wasn't expecting to stumble upon a traumatized father and daughter welded into a blood-filled submarine.
