“Not so cocky now, eh, rodent?” Shadow felt that Dr. Deep would have been slightly more intimidating if he wasn’t bent over and speaking between wheezes.
Shadow snarled as he fought against the iron grip of the mechanical hand. Nothing happened. Going still, he settled on leveling a scathing glare at Dr. Deep.
“Okay, get on with it. Cut off my head or whatever you’re planning to do.”
The baby shook him like a rattle. Humiliating, but he managed to maintain his glower through it.
Dr. Deep smiled maliciously and stroked his chin. “Not so fast. We have some plans for you first.”

Summary
Shadow hesitantly got closer to Tails, who had that lopsided smile and admiring look in his eyes he always got around Sonic. It felt wrong to see that while Shadow was standing right in front of him.
He peered closer. The fox’s colors were muted like the landscape around him, and there was something… insubstantial about him, like he wasn’t quite solid. Shadow frowned, reaching out to touch him—and his hand passed through Sonic’s friend like nothing was there.
Shadow’s eyes went wide. He jumped back involuntarily, then moved from one person to another only to find that all of them were the same. Ghostlike, like the rest of Green Hill. He huffed a dry laugh. Maybe Ghost Hill was more accurate.

Don's best friend from high school now works for the DEA and gets involved in a case. Don doesn't know that he was also Charlie's bully. I love the depiction of Charlie and Don's relationship in this.
