Summary
Mary, attention flickering between the immovable statue that her eldest daughter has become and the impending cascade of tears hidden behind her youngests eyes, grabs hold of Edwina and repeats the oh-so-important question, “Yes, Kate, what is going on here?”
This knocks Kate out of the staring contest, her head jerking to the side to see her family looking back at her as if they do not know her. Her face falls with alarming speed.
Anthony, upon seeing this, quickly pockets the ring and stands at attention next to Kate before addressing the mass of confused onlookers before them- along with one or two family members who aren’t quite as shocked as everyone else. He speaks loudly and steady enough for all to hear, “I am asking Kate to marry me. That is the situation.”

Summary
Kate sucks in a harsh breath, an instant reaction to his question, and then takes an involuntary step back and away from him. She licks her lips before saying, “It will break her heart. I- I have broken her heart.”
“No,” He removes the distance between them once again with his voice hard, “No, Kate, not you. I- I have broken her heart.”
Her head shakes as a single tear breaks through her defenses, “Do not take all the credit. There are two of us standing in this park at dawn.”

“I believe I must remove myself from the situation, so as to not further your delusions,” She is unable to remove the smile from her face, however, as she turns to leave.
Anthony’s hand snaps across the short distance, to grasp her gloved one, “If I shall not have a dance, nor a flirt, then please bless me with your unwavering wit instead.”
Her eyes zero in on their joined hands, her own subconsciously caressing back, “I do not wish to confuse you any longer.”
“I am far from confused, Miss Sharma.”

Summary
There’s a migraine inducing crash as a plate slams against Harrington’s head. He stumbles- they both do. Billy grins, licking the blood from his mouth. Then Harrington’s up and rushing and suddenly they’re tumbling sideways. Billy’s got one hand around the other boy’s shoulders, the other desperately grasping at the counter and then the refrigerator next to them. His lower back takes the brunt of the fall, Harrington’s weight knocking the wind out of him.
Then there’s cold- both from the fridge door opening and the cool air seeping out and across the linoleum, and from Harrington’s frenzied scramble off of Billy and towards it.
There’s a wet slopping sound, then several more of them as Billy realizes Harrington is forcefully shoving whatever the fuck plopped out of the fridge back in its place.
