Brucie said, his mouth a firm line. His usual playboy smile gone from his lips and his eyes were red from shed tears.
"A pound of flesh? Nothing more than that?" Another reporter asked.
"And not a single drop of blood. I can't have the Batman on my hide, now, can I?" Bruce Wayne responded as he walked away.
Or in an alternate universe wherein the Joker kills Jason Todd-Wayne and not Robin, Brucie Wayne "accidentally" puts a hit on the Joker.
It's not his fault that Gotham took things literally, Your Honour!

Summary
“It was nice of Rozanov to come check on you."
Shane understands that Rozanov must be a person, though when he scans through his memories—the ones of being sixteenish and the ones he’s made in this hospital room—he can’t conjure up any details.
“Who?” He asks, staring up at her.
“Oh, I should’ve realized. He’s the captain of the other team. You two are pretty serious rivals,” she chuckles. “He just came by to see how you were, and apologize I suppose.”
“Apol’gize? Did he hit me?”
“No, no. But, captain to captain, you know….”
After the nice, pretty nurse leaves, Shane is alone for a moment. He finds himself looking at the doorway, imagining a shadow there, a Rozanov. He has a professional rival? Maybe he’s like that Russian kid everyone says is going to give Shane a run for his money.
“Rozzzzanov,” Shane says to himself, his hand coming up to rub his chest. Distantly, there’s a beeping that’s getting faster.

When Shane is hit during the game, his injury is a lot worse, leading to ten years worth of memory loss. His parents and friends try to help him remember who he is, but something (or someone) is missing…

Ilya pulls back and looks up at him with wide, watery eyes, 'You want me there?'
Ilya’s voice is soft with hope, and Shane would do anything to protect each and every tender emotion in Ilya’s heart.
'Yeah, I can’t think of anyone else I’d want to spend my summer with.'

'Okay, you win,' Ilya says, his good hand coming up to cradle the side of Shane’s face, his thumb stroking along the freckles on the tops of his cheeks, 'I will come to the cottage.'
Shane’s resolve cracks and finally gives way, his elation is a flood washing away the usual scaffolding of his anxiety. Uninhibited, he leans in close to Ilya until their noses brush, with every intention to kiss him, memories be damned, they can make new ones."

AU in which instead of Marlow hitting Shane, it's Drapeau who hits Ilya, fracturing his collarbone, and giving him a concussion which causes him to forget everything since the draft. Luckily, Shane has the perfect place for him to heal, and hopefully recover his lost memories. Only the most precious ones, of course.
