They’d been out together again, just the two of them this time, stag and dog tearing through the black tangle of the Forbidden Forest under a sky that smelled of pine and wet earth and the distant promise of rain.
Antlers catching moonlight, paws pounding over roots and fallen leaves until their muscles ached and bodies were too tired to keep running.
Now Sirius was here, laying suddenly in James bed, sprawled half on top of him, one leg thrown over his thigh, face buried in the crook of his neck. The bed dipped under their combined weight, the blankets twisted around them both.
A shift of hips. The leg over James’s thigh tightened, muscle flexing, and then Sirius made a sound that was low, almost inaudible, more breath than voice.
James’s breath caught in his throat.
