Summary
He's never been here at night, but slipping through the dark, empty Archives is second nature anyway. It’s as if his feet know precisely where to step, to make the least noise. Which floorboards creak the hardest, how to avoid the books Tim left lying on the floor.
And then he’s standing outside the Archivist’s office, just out of sight, taking in that voice.
None of the words are clear, they're mumbled too quietly to make out. But they're familiar. Oh so familiar. It’s like Martin can predict the exact dips in octave the Archivist's voice will take before it does. Like he knows what statement is being read, without any possible indicator.

Martin Blackwood gets a promotion. It's a new opportunity with new faces to get acquainted with. If only they actually felt new. If only his new boss didn't make the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. If only he didn't look so familiar. If only the inexplicable grief Martin feels every time they make eye contact could be, well.. explicable.

Summary
"I'll be here, if you ever need me," he whimpers; it's not a favor, it's him begging. But it's the sort of thing people would say to him, and he wants, needs to be the sort who's there for them in return.
Georgie would smack him, right now, if she were here; if it was them instead, and tell him he's 'coming on too strong.'
But Jon doesn't know how to apply himself in any other way besides 'too strong.'
"Yeah," Martin shrugs, procedurally. Yeah.a vignette ? character study ?? introspective ??? on jon sims, and the rather harrowing experience of realizing you're falling in love when you're already halfway to the ground.

In which Martin skirts around his actual feelings, because Jon's got a date with a wax museum, and maybe they'll get a chance for love confessions when he's back. Because he will definitely, absolutely be back. And Martin definitely doesn't mind waiting.
Jon, Martin, and the tea they share the night before Yarmouth, now with 20% more ominous foreshadowing.
short theoretical one-shot, set between the end of MAG 117 and beginning of MAG 118

Summary
getting out of The Lonely isn't quite as simple as just saying 'i'm leaving,' and walking. it takes more than putting one foot in front of the other to escape.
but that is, at least, part of it.aka, it's martin blackwood & his favorite the Cure album vs the world. (the world is the really weird, superfluous time that passes between "i really loved you," "let's go home," and a cabin in scotland.)
a semi-annoying, semi-depressing, all run-on sentences one-shot that's so long it can hardly be called a one-shot. nothing happens and everything matters. :)
