Summary
Because for Mello, hate is never truly just that. If she tries hard enough, she can pretend and think how simple is to pick just one color out of the palette of emotions that Near paints on her.
Mello has tried her whole life to cling to it. To think that red is the only thing she sees when Near is in front of her.
Rage. Not passion. It could never be that, even if anger also carries a certain shade of twisted love that she tries to ignore.
She wants to pretend she’s colorblind.
She wants to pretend she never saw anything at all.
Ignorance is truly a blessing, but Mello has always been a little cursed.

Summary
Mello still remembers the time when the collar in Near’s shirt had been twisted, and, without thinking, she reached to fix it, her fingertips grazing the warm skin of her neck. Mello had felt Near’s eyes on her the whole day, and her own hand burned until the next.
But Near's hair is something out of her reach; there’s almost no excuse for her to touch it, and the request is weird itself. Her pride works as a break, a halt in her intent of embarrassing herself by even asking in the first place. Because Mello knows very well that if she ever starts, she may never stop.
Sometimes, she really doesn’t trust herself. But Near does.
Maybe Mello isn’t the stupid one out of the two.

Summary
"Ya know damn well what I mean", Haruka gets up to block the exit. Fine, if Suo wants to leave so badly, he better have a good reason. "Stay the night."
It's the perfect moment for lightning to strike, and it does. The dim room lights up with it, bright and sudden, making Haruka jump. Suo, of course, remains perfectly still.
"A sleepover with Sakura-kun?" Suo chuckles but it sounds hollow, enough so to make Haruka cringe. "What an honor!"
A sudden thunderstorm strands Suo at Sakura's apartment. The problem? There's only one futon.

Nirei gives him a puzzled look. “Hannah Hickey? Who’s that?”“Not a person, dumbass,” Haruka doesn’t mean to call him names, but the words come out anyway. “Sorry…I mean, it’s…I dunno how to pronounce it. That shit that makes you puke up flowers or whatever.”
Nirei’s eyes widen tenfold. He shakes his head. “Y-You mean hanahaki?!”
Haruka merely nods in response. “Yeah, that thing.”
“That’s not a real disease though!”
“Well it feels pretty fucking real to me,” he coughs and hacks up more flower petals.
(OR: Sakura dies from Hanahaki Disease, believing Suo doesn't love him. When Suo finds out, he pulls out all the stops to bring Sakura back to life.)
