Summary
He identified the prince's isolation as a vulnerability. He was not wrong. That was, unfortunately, not the problem.
The problem was the reading room at midnight. The problem was the argument about defensive strategy that neither of them won. The problem was a name said without a title in a corridor at the second hour, and the specific way Illuga looked at him like he was something worth understanding rather than something worth using.
The problem, in short, was that Lohen had gone looking for an edge to pull on and had instead found a person.

“I mean… It was your idea,” Takumi says, as if that supports his point at all.
“It wasn’t an idea until you made it one,” Eito replies.
Takumi groans, burying one hand in the red mess he calls hair. “It’s just… Doesn’t it sound interesting? Even a little? To find out what we all look like, or whatever..?”
“Even if I did manage to see you all as anything but…” Eito grimaces, gesturing vaguely at Takumi, “that, it wouldn’t change the fact that humanity is rotten to its core. It’d just be a quality of life improvement, which I could do without if it means keeping this blessing. And anyway, I brought it up for what it would do to you. I don’t think you’ve given it enough thought.”
OR : Eito and Takumi swap their eyes. It goes... Differently for both of them.

As Takumi steps further into the courtyard, Eito opens his eyes to level him with a look. He looks startled and off-kilter for just a moment. “You’re wearing that more proudly than I thought, Takumi,” he says, standing up and returning to the center of the cage.
Instead of an answer, Takumi asks, “Does it hurt?” He already knows there’s no reasonable response to Eito’s words, anyway, since this whole… Situation has been anything but reasonable. “My—your eye, it hurts,” he offers, in the hopes that his own admission will pull one out of Eito, too.
“It hurts more knowing I have something from someone as repulsive as you in here,” Eito huffs, pointing at the vibrant blue of his new eye. For just a moment, Takumi thinks it looks good on him. Then, Eito smiles, “But have they worked? Do you see the truth, yet?”
