Summary
Emergency calls were routine for Till. His senses were on high alert as he moved towards danger, because it was simply part of being a firefighter. Yet, a different dread now loomed larger than any blaze—Ivan.
A neighbor near the station had an odd habit, calling the fire department specifically for Till, not for burning buildings, stranded cats, or flooded homes.
No, Ivan's emergencies made Till's teeth clench. Take the time a shirt blew off the clothesline. Then there was the stubborn jam jar. He even asked for a ride to karaoke, all smiles as he explained he didn't have any friends. Or the business with the party balloons stuck to his ceiling for weeks.
Each call, each ridiculous request ended with Till muttering 'Shibal saekkiya' under his breath, sometimes even directly into the phone line before hanging up.
"You know, as annoying as Ivan is," Luka had said one afternoon, "he indirectly got you Employee of the Month."
Till snorted. "So, I should thank the guy who makes my life harder for an award I didn't even want?"
OR
Alien Stage contestants are firefighters, except the civilian neighbor Ivan—and the segyeins are a dog rescue team.
