Hiccup was returning from the northern market with fruit and herbs when he crossed paths with Viggo. They clashed, and in the fight Hiccup fell from a cliff, striking hard and nearly blacking out. Viggo could have left him there, but instead he stayed and when a snowstorm closed in, the two were forced to face the storm together.

Summary
The day after the events of Triple Cross, Hiccup wakes up in his hut back on the Edge. He receives a letter supposedly from his father about wanting to meet up in a remote location and an odd sense of deja vu hits him. Didn’t he already do this? Wasn’t this what started his brief alliance with Viggo? The same Viggo that sacrificed himself to save Hiccup?
Perhaps it was all just a vivid dream?
He decides to follow the steps he remembers taking and becomes more and more confused as everything seemingly lines up exactly like it was before right down to Viggo’s sacrifice. When Hiccup wakes up back at the start of everything once more, he decides to take advantage of this strange situation to try to save Viggo. He doesn’t get it on the first try, nor the next or the next or even after that. It turns out to be a lot harder to achieve than he ever expected it to be.

Jim had nine, glorious, slowly withering away minutes to chew his nails, grind his teeth, and argue ethics with himself. Oh minutes, shall he compare thee to a summer's day? Whoops, make that eight minutes, 30 seconds. Here is the crossroads at which Jim currently falters: he could A: return the evil, cursed ring to the evil, cursed serial killer currently set on murdering him and his loved ones, with this cursed ring being the only thing to control him or... he could B: wear the ring, thereby removing any chance of Angor becoming a good person, surrendering himself to the abuse of dark magic (untold side effects to be found), but guarantee without a doubt that neither him nor his loved ones would perish.
