She'd known he'd arrived when the clearing she'd been waiting in had gone silent save for the thundering of her heart. She'd sucked in a shuddering breath, hugging her knees tight to her chest where she sat at the base of the large oak tree that hemmed the north edge, unable to help the skitter of fear that had raced down her spine even as anticipation tingled beneath her skin.
She'd heard him before she saw him, his deep, rumbling breaths emerging from the moon-sharpened shadows that delineated the edge of the forest. His gleaming eyes had appeared first, near as bright as the full moon overhead but somehow infinitely darker, before his dark form had melted out of the night.
He was massive.
And he had been very clearly aware of why she was waiting for him.
