She glanced at his face to see if he was still staring off into the trees, but he was looking at her hands.
“I’m going to miss this,” she said suddenly before she could stop herself. She hadn’t said what she’d miss, but it obvious and intangible enough that there weren’t good words for it.
His eyes flashed to her face. There was a taut moment of silence, one fragile and sharp and full of unsaid things.
“Then don’t leave,” he said.
