Summary
The first time he saw a man on his knees in an alley, the image had stuck to his eyelids for weeks. The second time he actually laughed in surprise. The third time he frowned. The fourth time he looked away.
The fifth time, he watched.

Summary
Vetinari's shadow flickered over him like an uneasy apparition, angle shifted every other heartbeat by the changing of the lights.
'What did she tell you?'
Vimes stalled for time, looking away, but then looking back so the man in front of him wouldn't think he was angry, or disappointed, or worse, dismissive.
'She said I was a fool and a coward,' said Vimes. 'Nice home truths to hear from the wife, eh?' He trailed off, not sure where to put his hands. He was just standing there, after all, it shouldn't matter where his hands were, but something about Vetinari always made him aware of it, always made him want to punch something, or cradle something gently until it hatched and sang.- Language:

When you look in the mirror, your reflection is almost recognizable. Terrible, that he should amplify your signal.

Summary
Crozier had once seen a man's tooth burst. Heard the resounding concussion and watched him cough out the enamel shrapnel. Sputtering, weeping in relief. He wishes to eradicate Fitzjames from his mind in much the same manner.

Summary
“You said you had a question,” Francis snapped, irritable already.
“Yes,” James said, flushed and resplendent still from the company next door—undaunted and loose-limbed in just the way that plucked cloying ire from a raw place in Francis. “How’s your chess game?”
A seduction.
