It was hard to believe that he was missing college already but honestly after the first day of being doted on, his well meaning mom’s caring attention had turned into prodding questions and judgement about when his grades were coming out (“I don’t know, it’s only my first semester, mom”), why he didn’t call home more (“I call every Sunday, mom”), whether he was staying in touch with the kid down the road who went to the same university (“No, mom, I haven’t hung out with him since I was twelve, and we’re different majors”).
Obi-Wan’s mom meant well but it was only his step dad’s soft hand on her shoulder reminding her not to bombard Obi-Wan that slowed down her roll even a little bit.
(Or, Obi-Wan's long-suffering Christmas holiday with his mom and step dad takes an unexpected but not unpleasant turn.)
