Summary
Four years. It had been four years since Henry had saved him.
Will Byers had spent the last of his teenage years living in the Creel residence, welcomed in by the ever so kind Henry Creel, his savior from that fateful night. Ever since, they had found peace in living together in the special home Henry had created for the two. Away from all the monsters, away from people, away from everything that could ever hurt Will.
But once evidence of Will's past slowly resurface, he begins to question the differences between what Henry tells him and his ghastly visions. Little by little, Henry's perfectly curated reality falls apart, and Will stands conflicted at the cross lines, struggling between escaping from the nightmare or purposefully ignoring all the warning signs to continue living in the supposed perfect dream Henry had offered to him.
In the midst of all of this, a certain boy remains cemented in Will's mind, refusing to be left behind as just another one of his missing memories. It's up to Will to decide if he chooses to seek them out, or let their past be lost forever.

At the far edge of the cemetery, beneath a maple shedding red leaves like old blood, the earth above William Byers shifted.
Six feet below, inside a coffin lined in white satin, Will Byers lay with his hands folded over his stomach.
No worms.
No rot.
No sunken cheeks or ruined skin.
The dress Joyce had chosen with shaking hands, the dress he had asked for before the end, covered him in layers of white. Long sleeves. A fitted bodice. A skirt that pooled around his legs like fog. Gothic and delicate, almost bridal, except no one had come to a church for him.
Only a hole in the ground.
Only rain.
Only Mike Wheeler carrying him until his knees gave out.
Will’s chest rose.

"Foolishly, in the back of his mind, Will Byers had hoped that destroying the Upside Down would be the end of all his troubles.
It was stupid, he knew. Years of trauma don’t just disappear if the source of it does. It takes time to get better, IF it's possible to get better at all.
So, to put it plainly, Will was not okay.
And he wasn’t sure if he was going to ever be okay again."OR
After the events of Season 5, Will is left feeling unable to to just... go back to normal. And it seems like everyone else can.
He could open up to people, but nooooo lets make ourselves feel worse, digging ourselves into a deeper hole, because we like to indulge in our sadness.
