Summary
The Kingdom of Zilkhstan chooses to align themselves with the newly created UFN, joining them prior to the establishment of the charter. Lelouch is well aware that they are up to something, but right now his concern lies in completing the task before him in restoring Japan and freeing it from Britannia, a necessary step in assuring that the UFN will have the strength to change the world for the better.
Then the first FLEIJA is used and the Betrayal happens.
Shamna knows very well that Lelouch is her greatest threat and so sends a group of assassins after him, who know where to go thanks to her own Geass of Future Sight, to kill him not long after he prevents the Ragnarok Connection. Clearing her path to the throne and setting herself as a great tyrant that the Black Knights cannot accept and so choose to align with Schneizel, even with his FLEIJA warheads, in the hopes of beating her.
The world is staring down a future where, one way or another, a tyrant will rule them all. To prevent that, they need a miracle. They need Zero.
Good thing Lelouch has a knack for overcoming the odds against him.

Summary
If Lelouch had known that party would have resulted in him meeting Lloyd Asplund, he wouldn't have gone. As is, now he's gone and been tricked into working for the eccentric Earl so might as well do a good job. Even if that ends up complicated before the first year of work is even really begun with him reuniting with Suzaku and starting to uncover a plot by the Emperor involving some very particular powers.
And that's not even taking into account Prometheus and his rebel group, along with the other complications that keep piling up and preventing Lelouch from making his move against the Emperor. But at the same time, these choices and changes might very well open up a new path for Lelouch vi Britannia and his comrades in seeking a gentle world...
