Dazai smiles softly at Atsushi’s voice, although his gaze never leaves the resplendent cherry trees blooming in the park across the street.
"The sakura blossoms are beautiful today, don't you think?"
"Oh?" Atsushi pauses, taking them in for the first time that day. "Yes. Yes they really are."
It was a well-known fact throughout the agency.
However, no one expected the chaos that would unfold when a simple bouquet was left at the agency's front desk, with a simple note left attached to a string.

Dazai narrows his eyes. “I’m nearly twenty three.”
“Compared to me, twenty three is nothing.” Fukuzawa chuckles at his own joke. “I still feel like a child sometimes, even at my age. We never really grow out of it.”

In learning how to feel happiness, Dazai gets the chance to finally live the childhood he never got to have. Maybe there is no greater meaning to life, but that’s something he has to figure out for himself. This is a story of healing, learning to love, and acceptance, in every sense of the words.
Inspired by all the “de-aging” fics out there that use time travel to deal with the trauma these kids went through (which I absolutely adore!) Time moves forward, and they can’t change the past, but it’s never too late to start to heal.

‘This is Chuuya Nakahara, your new caretaker.’ his mother stated. Dazai’s eyes only widened in shock.
‘A robot?’
‘Kind of a degrading term, but yes; a robot.’
Dazai’s glaring only intensified. ‘I don’t need some pathetic excuse of a toy as a caretaker. No one can replace Odasaku anyway. Couldn't you have gotten me a pet instead?’
Chuuya didn’t seem to be affected by Dazai’s insults, which only showed how very non-human he actually was.
‘Stop behaving like a spoiled brat! We could have sent you to a clinic the moment you decided to behave like this, but instead we spent a lot of money on getting you this expensive solution.’
‘You could have spent more money on getting protection for Odasaku.’
(In which all 7 year-old Dazai really wants is to get back Odasaku, but gets Chuuya instead. Though in the end, perhaps the hatrack isn't all that terrible)

“If you’ve just come to verbally accost my employees then I’ll have to ask you to leave, Ougai.” Fukuzawa’s gaze sharpened. “This is the life of a hard-working individual you are altering forever. I don’t appreciate your games.”
“Apologies.” Mori spun on the heel of his dress shoe to face Fukuzawa, his long black coat swishing behind him. “You see, my decision is quite obvious. I thought you all were detectives.”
Mori turned to Fukuzawa with a sinister, razor-sharp grin.
Atsushi watched Chuuya’s jaw clench as Mori spoke the dreaded words.“Obviously my answer is Dazai-kun.”
Dazai and Chuuya survive Mersault only to be thrown into the complicated recovery process. Their past returns to be picked apart, leaving the two no choice but to force the truth to the surface and face it head on.
