Or: Lucy and Tim are rookie and TO who happen to sometimes understand each other in metaphysical ways. It's completely fine. Tim thinks it's fine, and he knows that Lucy thinks it's fine, too, thanks to the aforementioned metaphysical understanding. And if they're hyperconscious of not brushing up against each other by accident, well--Tim thinks that might be the only thing maintaining the illusion that Lucy is nothing more than a rookie he thinks about a little too often.

He doesn’t exactly know why it hurts so much, but he’d been watching them from the upper level while waiting for Thorsen, and each time Chris had made her laugh, his stomach had twisted a little bit more. The wider her smile had gotten, the more his chest had ached.
He’s been trying to deny it, but he’s pretty certain that he’s less upset about Ashley breaking up with him than he is about the fact that Lucy is happy with someone else.
