Summary
She felt gentle fingers holding her face, a thumb stroking the scar that went from the top of her brow to the middle of her cheek. Through heavy lids, she could see Wednesday’s pained expression
“I’m sorry” she said, her quiet whisper echoing in the tiny bathroom.
“don’t be” Enid’s quiet, breathy reply brushed Wednesday’s lips.
She rested their foreheads together and tried to communicate the words she couldn’t find.
She didn't remember how she got to bed that night, but she fell asleep to the sound of the faintest heartbeat, surrounded by the smell of fresh linen. She dreamed of the damp forest floor thrumming against strong paws, trees spinning by in a blur, the faintest cry of a raven following her above. For the first time in her life, she felt truly free.

Summary
Vi shook her head as she scrolled, trying to clear the sting of the loss and the twisting, heated memory of Caitlyn’s form against her rattling around in her brain.
It didn’t work.
It never worked.
Vi still remembered their first fight clearly, even years later.
The image of Caitlyn walking into the ring was still fresh in her mind: the shocking blue of her eyes sparking under the bright lights, her body slender, but muscled, her angular face stoic and focused, her mouth a harsh line across her face.
Vi had been worried she was going to snap her in half.
She scoffed as she remembered just how fucking wrong she’d been.
Caitlyn had wiped the floor with her. She’d had to work for it - a change from her other fights, Vi found out later - but she had.
After that, her training regimen was pretty much exclusively focused on beating Caitlyn.
She hated losing.

Nerves fizzing around in her chest, Vi took a deep breath.
