“I was never in the Soul-and-A-Halves.” Capella says, once she recovers from him raising his voice, finally her soft tone is gone. “And now? I don’t want to be.”
“Good!” Notkin barks in response, throwing his hands like it will somehow convince her of the gravity of what he’s saying. “because now you never will be. And- and- an-” he swallows, “And we’re not friends anymore, okay?” The argument seems juvenile even to his ears, and he can’t imagine what Capella thinks. “Don’t try to talk to me. Anyone you send on your behalf will be killed at the door.”
