Summary
“You sold your dick?” Eddie says, voice pitching higher than it should. Everyone snaps to look at him, and Eddie’s cheeks suddenly flush with warmth. Okay. Maybe he’s drunk.
“No…not exactly,” Buck says, “I let them like… take a mould. Take some pictures. That’s not— it could be the lie! You guys have to guess!”
“No,” Eddie slurs, tilting forward, an accusatory finger pointed. “I don’t believe you. And the car thing is—” A slightly drunken hiccup. “Bullshit. You can’t tell two lies.”
Horrified at the allegation, Buck gasps, hand slapped against his sternum. “You think I’d— Eddie, the sanctity of two truths and a lie is really, really important to me.”

Summary
Regardless, it’s kind of a perfect day. The breeze is crisply cool, the sand silky between his toes, there are beers and pastrami sandwiches waiting for him in the cooler, and Buck is yelping and thrashing in the water thirty feet to his left.
Eddie exhales, slightly forlornly. It was nice while it lasted.
“Buck?” he calls. “What’s wrong?”
“Ow,” Buck says miserably, hobbling out of the ocean. “Ow, ow.”
Eddie jogs over to meet him at the tideline, immediately clocking the translucent, gelatinous glob wrapped around Buck’s left calf. Short tendrils trail behind his ankle, the jellyfish deflated once out of the water.
or, buck gets stung by a jellyfish. eddie probably shouldn’t pee on it

Summary
“Eddie,” Buck says, feeling on the verge of hysteria. “It’s kind of a personal thing.”
“Well— yeah,” Eddie says. “If you’re doing it for sex. But that’s not what you’re doing. Right?”
Buck thinks about that for a moment. “I- I guess not?”
“Okay,” Eddie says, nodding. “So— it’s not any different than anything else we do to help each other then, right?”
“I—” Buck tilts his head. “I don’t know. Isn’t it?”
— in which buck and eddie slowly come to the conclusion that getting each other off for pain relief is just one of the many totally normal, platonic things they do together.

Summary
“I mean,” Eddie backtracks hastily, “that I probably don’t—uh, that I don’t want a hook up. Just the single, uh, kiss. For research.”
“Right,” Buck nods. “For research.”
They turn back to the TV, sipping beers and spooning dessert, room quiet save for the telenovela playing. Buck, gun to his head, could not tell you who or what is on the screen right now. The brave, strong part of his brain has surrendered shamefully, white flag hoisted while the rest of his brain—stupid, stupid—hosts a skillfully imagined supercut of his best friend kissing men. It’s surprisingly new subject matter for him. What’s unsurprising is his distaste for every conjured scenario, discarding each indistinguishable stranger until the reel buffers on something more… familiar.
“Well—”
Eddie waits a patient minute for Buck to continue before asking, “Well, what?”
“I just mean—if it’s just a kiss, right.” Buck pauses. “You could, uh. You could try it with me.”
or, buck thinks kissing men and women feels pretty much the same. eddie’s not buying it. sometimes settling a bet requires kissing your best friend, a lot, for research
