Summary
Gem could see Pearl wasn’t doing her best, not in the way she had normally seen her fight. She was deflecting every hit, playing defense with no offense to pair with it. Gem initiated every swing, pushing Pearl farther and farther back. Scar was farther down the hill, watching them, waiting to take on the winner of their battle.

Summary
Pearl’s plan is simple. Chase Scott, fight him one on one, kill him, get Scar to kill her for the extra ten hearts, pray Scar kills Gem and wins.
At the last moment, however, just before her arrow hit her target, Gem raised her blade and struck him down, stealing Scott’s life for herself.
Pearl didn't kill him.
It’s fine, it's fine, she's fine. The plan can still work, Pearl knows what she must do.
“Scar.”
Pearl doesn’t finish, but Scar knows exactly what she is about to say and he is having none of it.

Swords clashed together in a flurry. Gem’s hands gripped the hilt until her palms hurt. Pearl was relentless with her attacks, eyes darkened. Despite looking into each other’s eyes, Gem couldn’t find her in there.
“Come on Pearl,” she tried again, striking a nervous grin as she blocked the next attack. “You don’t want to do this, right? We’ve-” she heaved as Pearl swung her sword from an unexpected angle. She barely had time to block it. “Pearl. You don’t have to do this. We can end it together!”
