Summary
TO GROW WINGS pt. 1
Since the moment Luz ran away from everything she knew, Eda has been there. She’s her teacher, her protector, the only adult in her life she can really trust.
Luz is growing up faster than she ever wanted. It’s hard to stay a kid when you’re fighting an evil emperor and trying to get back home. And luckily, Eda understands. Eda doesn’t push her away once things get hard, like her mom did. She doesn’t tell her she’s too immature for her age. She actually listens. And what’s even better is that Eda actually LIKES her the way she is now.
Maybe a little too much.
("Reaching Out" until the end of S2, but Eda and Luz develop an unhealthy relationship. Eda is selfish, lacks self control, is grooming Luz, and Luz romanticizes the situation to cope)
Note: This fic is about grooming and how it affects the victim's mind. This is NOT smut, and rape scenes will be non-pornographic. There are also references to other forms of sexual abuse, but none of it is sexualized or romanticized. Read and write what you want, AO3 was made for that. But if you're looking for smut or darkship content, you won't find it here.

Bookmarker's Notes
Cons: First, second and third chapters are very messy. Characterization is all over the place, and the trans main character feels shoe-horned in instead of natural. Storytelling is very 'tell, don't show'. Main character is supposed to be Amity Blight, but she doesn't FEEL like Amity Blight. Instead she feels like a different, inconsistent, character, who happens to have the same name. By chapter six I am a bit bored of the story. Not because it is slice of life, which I love, but because with how tell-y the narrative is I have zero immersion. Nothing grips me, nothing makes me eager to experience the next event in the story, I am just told ''THis happens'' and I acknowledge 'Yes, that happened' and move on. No emotional investment at all.
Neutral: Pacing is middling. It is neither phenomenal nor terrible. Minor accordioning.
Pros: Spelling and grammar are on point, with only a single error in the whole first decent-length chapter. Premise is not unique, but is setting up that it might be done well. Immediately upon starting fourth chapter the quality seems to have jumped up. It's still very tell-y, but much better than the previous three chapters. THis bodes well.
Notes: Getting better by chapter six, but still very tell-y. Reads a little like the script for a movie, with each sentence being a statement of action (''Eda did this. Luz went there. Amity felt that.'' ect...) At this rate of improvement, I think somewhere around chapter fifteen it will be more show than tell. I wonder if the wordsmith is new to the craft? If so, this is an incredibly impressive beginning.
Overview: I was not impressed with the first through third chapters, but the seeds of possible greatness are there. I still look forward to seeing if this story blossoms into greatness.

This was so not a good idea.
Amity hoisted up the roller like a briefcase and ran up the steps, pushing at the door and slipping inside.
Without delay, Amity knew she’d just done something very, very wrong.***
Trapped in a strange and terrifying world, Amity must navigate the choppy, deadly waters and find her way home—the human realm.
If only she could trust the strange and mysterious witch who promises to get her there.Bookmarked by THorniestmax

Bookmarker's Notes
Excellent pacing and construction, Wordsmith is kind and enthusiastic, low number of typos, long chapters that feel short because of how good they are.
Top-notch story.
